We loved this hotel! The management was extremely friendly, the rooms were darling and spot clean. We booked one of the european style rooms with a shared bathroom - not a problem at all. At every time of day there was one available, and they were absolutely clean. The wireless and TV were bonus extras, and then we took advantage of the coupon for the small-town cafe downstairs. The hotel is full of natural light, and there's a cute library cubby with a public computer. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior. This place is such an incredible deal - we're going to make the trip an annual tradition! Thank you for the wonderful service!

Stayed here twice during this trip. I chose it based on reviews here and was not disappointed. It had such a great feel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They are a bit small but we were out during the day and it was a great base. It is walking distance to the ferry terminal so after a long day in Victoria, it was nice to just walk up the street to get "home". It is also right in the heart of downtown so we were able to walk most places.
The first time we stayed we were in a room next to the street. It did get a little noisy in the early morning. The second time we were on the other side and it was much quieter but a little stuffier.
The unoccupied rooms were left open as were many windows which let in fresh air and took away the sterile feel of a motel. The staff was very helpful, we were able to print boarding passes for our flight in their small library. They also offered us the use of their washing machine.
This is exactly what I want when I travel, a comfortable little room with friendly service, a walkable location, great price, and nothing too fancy.

I always get a chuckle out of reviews that slam a hotel because it's not a cookie-cutter Marriott Courtyard. No offense to J. Willard Marriott and his fine hotels, but you don't really get the local flavor of a city when you stay at a chain. Enter the Downtown Hotel in Port Angeles.

It doesn't have a pool (eeek!), the rooms don't have phones (yikes!), and some rooms don't have bathrooms (omygosh!), yet it remains a perfectly pleasant place to stay when visiting the Olympic peninsula. The rooms are clean, comfy, and are a charming reminder of the city's past (see attached pictures).

All but one or two rooms are on the top floor of the 3-story building, so you don't have to worry about footsteps above you. There are 4 shared bathrooms for the rooms that don't have their own. There's also a small library in the cubby above the steps with computer that's connected to the internet.

The hotel is mostly quiet but there is one thing that's a bit noisey -- this might sound silly, but the magnetic latches on the showers in the rooms are so loud, that you can hear them slam all the way down the hall. Another small gripe is that most of the rooms don't have a great view -- but I don't really stay at a hotel to stare out the window all day.

The hotel is located in the very center of downtown and within walking distance of many restaurants, the ferry to Victoria, and all the downtown shops. However, for the best food in Port Angeles, you'll have to hop in the car to get to Cafe Garden, on E.1st Street at the insection with N. Alder St.

The prices were pretty reasonable -- $75 - $90 per night.

I needed to stay in Port Angeles for a week for a photography workshop, and wanted something low-cost, walking distance to restaurants, and with a little kitchen so I could make breakfast (photo workshops start early, often before restaurants open).

I reserevd a room with private bath and kitchen. I wasn't expecting much for the price, and when I first saw the exterior of the building, my expectations were, I thought, confirmed.

When I walked inside and saw the place, though.... wow. It was really cute, obviously remodeled recently, and that quite tastefully. I was blown away. This was quite a good deal for the price.

And, of course, walking distance from Port Angeles' very small downtown.

The managers were very laid back, and incredibly honest. A great little hotel.
