“Pleasant Place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

Had a great "wet area" for snow gear before entering room. The breakfast area surrounded with glass and our own private view of the surrounding rain forest with a balcony which was very private.
Only slight criticism was that it was next to the backpacker caravan area as part of the same resort.
Clean and staff helpful.

We stayed here while doing the Glacier hike. It was great on first impressions, the bar looked fun, the kitchen and laundry were spacious, the dorm rooms were clean tidy. The main issue was the amount of younger travellers getting drunk and lairy into the night. The hallways were noisy into the early hours of the morning and really not fair on the people getting up early to do the hikes.
They need to get more plug sockets in the dorm rooms only 1 socket for 5 people. The shared bathrooms were clean. the kitchen was large enough room for big groups to cook at the same time, lots of cutlery, utensils to use. Plenty of food storage. A small lounge room to watch TV or read a book, a larger area for this would be ideal. The internet was fast, and not too expensive, and plenty of computers to use. The Bar was pumping at night, it was far away from teh rooms not to be heard which was good, they did drinks deals and games with prizes to win. A restaurant area and pool table. Our stay was ok we just needed more sleep!

The Tree House was perfect for a family. It was very comfortable and roomy. I would highly recommend it to others.

Good:
- Very clean room and toilet
- Comfortable beds
- Working heater during winter and warms up the room pretty fast
- Restaurant serves good food.
- Just 100m from the hot bath place

Bad:
- Thin walls.. We can hear alot of noise coming from the room beside us.

We were backpacking around the South Island and this was one of the nicest places we stayed in. Lovely staff, and great value for money! We stayed in a double room which had a double bed as well as a single and an ensuite. The room was small but big enough for the two of us - probably not quite enough room for three people though. The towels provided were a bit old and tattered and some of the paint on the walls was chipped however we were only paying $70 a night and this was fantastic value for what we got. The kitchen was big and clean and the hot tub was amazing, especially after the glacier hike. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

The chalet was clean and tidy, very well heated and the bathroom spotless. The people from the reception extremely kind and flexible (because of weather conditions we had to change our booking several times and they've always helped us). I was also very impressed as we arrived late in the night and they've arranged somebody to give us the keys.
