“Friendly service and great room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

My partner and I based ourselves here for two nights in early July. Unfortunately we didn't have the best weather on our visit, so both our glacier tours got cancelled! We didn't let this spoil the fun though and managed to do both glacier public walks in the pouring rain.

So glad we did (they're amazing!) and so glad we stayed here as it was an awesome warm place to base ourselves to dry off and warm back up! The rooms are a generous size, by the looks recently renovated and the guys running the place are so lovely! It's one street back from the main street of Franz Josef and given the size of the village, it's close to everything!

Great kitchen facilities, big comfortable bed and the morning we departed the weather had cleared and we had a great view of the mountains! Who knew they were just there all along...

Cannot find fault with this nice motel. Lovely big comfy bed with electric blanket, flat screen tv with lots of channels, large spa bath and friendly staff. Kitchenette was well equipped but if you wanted to go out to eat close to all amenities of franz josef

Fantastic one-night stay in Franz Josef, Spotlessly clean and faultless service - couldn't ask for more when you arrive after a long trip with young children! All the little touches (like coffee plunger and coffee!) go a long way to separating the average motels from the great ones - excellent place to stay, highly recommended.

Dont let the word Motel through you off. This is an excellent place to stay in Franz Joseph. Its very very clean. The guys at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful. My wife and I stayed two nights as part of our Honeymoon and they even upgraded us to a bigger room. any questions we had even at late hours they would always help.

We stayed at the Alpine Glacier Motel for 2 nights recently and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation and the very nice service we received. The room we had easily held 3 people and included a small kitchen so we were fully self-reliant.

Terrific little motel set back behind the main street in town. We stayed here just one night and couldn't have asked for more. The guy at reception was very friendly and helpful and gave us a warm welcome upon our arrival. The room was large, very clean and fully self contained with ample heating and cooking utensils. WIll definitely stay here again should we pass by! Thanks

Room Tip: We stayed in a deck studio, not sure if it costs more than a standard studio. Although the view was...

We made a reservation in advanced at the iSite in Wanaka, thanks to solid Tripadvisor reviews. I'm so glad we did, as it became our favorite place, and we got the pleasure of meeting Billy! The reception closed at 8:00 p.m., but Mark was there till 8:30 p.m. waiting for us. Alternatively, he was also going to place a note with instructions if we arrived much later. Note to travelers going to small towns in the South Island: most hostels & hotel receptions will close around that time, so if you think you'll arrive late at night, make arrangements in advance. It's probably fine to just show up to hostels in places like Queenstown and Auckland, but in Franz Josef, Te Anau, etc., there might not be staff available after 7 or 8 p.m.

Mark had even stocked the fridge with some milk, which most certainly came in handy the following mornings as we cooked breakfast in the fully stocked kitchenette. And when I say fully, I mean they thought of everything one could possibly need to cook. They had a variety of glasses, mugs, a french press (they call it plunger), coffee to go in the french press, all sorts of sugars, toaster, pots, pans, wine opener and even, randomly, a potato peeler. There's laundry on site and Billy was kind enough to start the washer for us (usually $2. Dryer was $4).

Great bathroom with good water pressure and heated towel racks. Billy was so helpful; recommending that we hike Fox Glacier, and then arranging a scenic flight over both glaciers. We got such an amazing deal for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And if you're traveling with one or more people, it ends up costing about the same as a hostel. Can't say enough nice things about this place.
