“We ate here twice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Our family ate here twice in the 3 days we spent in Franz. First time we had pizza and wedges, and sat outside by the fireplace. This was perfect for our son (age 1) who gets a bit messy with his food. Service was attentive, the indian waiter didn't seem to understand much english but our orders came out correctly. Not amazingly good food but compared to the other offerings in town it was ok. The next time we sat inside by the fire and there was no one else there. Service was friendly and attentive again. A bit slow considering we were the only customers, but the big breakfasts we ordered were good - so much better than the insipid scrambled eggs at the Landing down the road.

“LOOOOOONNNG wait for food to arrive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

It took an incredibly long period of time to get our food - many other customers were getting upset as well. HOWEVER, it was near a holiday so perhaps they were short staffed. The food was not bad which is why I give them a 2 and not a 1.

“Food fit for pigeons... just”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

A group of friends and I had just ventured to the glaciers - cold, wet and looking forward to a good feed! We spotted the Plump Pigeon, with it's roaring fire and it seemed to tick the first box. It all went downhill from there... not one of my friends (party of 5) were happy with their meal. The main issue was that the majority of the ingredients were 'fresh' from the freezer - soggy, unflavoursome, and overpriced. The cost of the food was definitely a false reflection of what to expect on our plates, with its poor quality ingredients and portion sizes. The veggie alternative to a beef nachos was frozen peas & carrots... on tortilla chips. To follow my starter, the same mixed frozen veggies were used in a vegetable 'patty', accompanied by some pretty questionable sweating coleslaw. Although I couldn't really fault the beer, setting and service, I still wouldn't recommend this dining experience to a sole on this earth. My friends and I left very dissatisfied.

“Hungry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We looked at all the restaurants in Franz jOseph and chose this one. Food and service good. Over priced for what we had...but prices the same in all the eateries. For two people we paid c$70:00 NZD this included 2 beers...we shared a starter and did not have desserts.

“Don't bother especially if you have food allergies or intolerances”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Frozen veggies, badly cooked food. My companion had a food allergy and asked what was in the roast veggies, no mention of what she was allergic to so she ordered it. Arrived with food she was allergic to, sent it back it returned she ate some only to find small pieces of the food she is allergic to still on plate. She was sick all night.
