“If you are a history buff....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed Ninety Six NHS. Like most other Battlefields, it is more of a park with hiking trails. However, that being said, the Park Service did a great job with signs, silhouettes, and recreated buildings. I believe that one of the buildings is actually original. The visitor center had lots of information and as usual, a great movie that introduced you to the setting. One should watch the movie to understand what happened here. The paved path is only one mile long. There are signs everywhere stating what happened where. It's a wonderful location for a picnic lunch. I would definitely recommend going to Cowpens and Kings Mountain in conjunction with Ninety Six. Those two National Sites are about two hours away. Admission was free.

“Fantastic Historic Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

This is a great place to go and experience history. A lot happened on these grounds. There were battles from both the French and Indian Wars and Revolutionary War. The earthen mound of the old British "star fort" still remains. A replica stockade fort stands where the original once stood. Two old now defunct towns once were located here as well. The park is very clean. A small museum with gift shop is there. A great film can be watched explaining the history. Several trails can be walked through a forest. Visit the Star Pond while there. It's quite peaceful. Picnic tables are available. Easy to find-roadside signs are easy to follow. The best part=it's FREE!! Take the family for a great time to learn history and enjoy nature!

“An Important Historical Site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

Star Fort wasn't all that exciting when I visited as an elementary child. Back then, I did not understand the significance of the mounds of grass cover dirt where once men fought for our country’s independence. If you are in the area its well worth it to walk through the park, read all the plaques and take in the setting.

“Learn about your Heritage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

This was a great way to spend some time and learn about your Heritage. The site is well maintained and has informational markers that teach you as you move around it. A must for any Rev War buff. Make sure it is a nice day and plan a picnic. Plenty of room for family activities and education.
