“a suprisingly good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2007

Te Weheka is a well equiped hotel in the village of Fox. It has the advantage of being a small hotel and from our room we had good views from the balcony.

One nice touch was the wine and cheese laid on by the manager who was happy to mingle with his guests which is unusual in my experience.

Hotel had been boked via travel agent so we were not sure what to expect but it was a very plesant surprise. We were welcomed by Steve the manager who was very friendly and also comfimed our glacier walk with the guiding company.

The beds in this hotel are perhaps the most comfortable I have ever stayed in. We had 3 rooms and each was slightly different but each was lovely.

Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - the menu is not huge but everything on it is cooked to perfection. Breakfast was also very good and the complimentary glass of wine in the lounge before dinner is a lovely touch and a great way to meet other travellers.
Definitely the best hotel we stayed in the South Island

We wanted to celebrate a special occasion in Fox recently and wanted obviously the best hotel in the town to stay in. We chose Te Weheka as it looked like the best from what we could see and judging by the price we figured it had to be something special.

Whilst I totally agree with what others have said, the rooms are a great size the staff extremely friendly, the rooms clean and the balcony a nice touch, this hotel did not do it for us. It just didn’t
have any atmosphere at all, it was very clinical and standard. We paid $320NZD per night for 1 x double and we expected a lot more for our money.

We requested breakfast in our room on our special day and we were advised that they do not do room service, we explained that we were celebrating a very special occasion and hoped they could accommodate but no.

We did not eat in the restaurant other then breakfast which was nothing to write about. The hotel does not reflect how we felt about the rest of Fox, we had an amazing time and the people are extremely friendly and the glacier amazing, we can’t wait to go back but we won’t be forking out so much again to stay here.

We have nothing but praise for every aspect of this hotel. It is immaculately presented, with modern high quality fittings and furniture, spotlessly clean and well designed. The room was spacious, beautifully furnished, with a good size kitchen area, stylishly organised, with careful thought about customer usage - for example, the taps on the kitchen sink were specially chosen to make sure you could fit the kettle underneath in an upright position!
Steve, the manager, was obliging to a degree not often found in the hotel trade, welcoming, full of good advice, and dealt with our problem of unexpectedly late evening arrival ( mess up at Milford Sound, not our fault ) with ease over the phone, not only making a sensible arrangement for getting the room key when the office would be closed, but offering to put sandwiches in the room for us after a trying and tiring journey.
It's just five minutes easy walk to town centre, and in an excellent, quiet location with superb views. A must.

First class hotel. Rooms are large with a large bathroom. Good beds, clean. Rate includes hot breakfast buffet at their nice little hotel restaurant. Buffet is better than average. Paid $348 NZ per night which may be a bit high for the average traveler. If you can handle the price, you won't be disappointed.

Local parot, the Kea is in the area. Several start calling in the a.m. and hang out atop one of the restaurants in town.

Make sure arrive at your restauant before the mass of tour buses arrive. Otherwise you will have a late dinner.

All I can say is "wow". Since Fox glacier is a small town I was expecting a motel... but instead the room finishes are top notch---definetly the best hotel stay in our 2 wks in New Zealand! I don't know how the staff clean the place, but everything looks brand new! Friendly staff, good breakfast. TOTALLY recommend this place if you are staying in Fox/FJ overnight!

My husband and I have just spent 2 nights at Te Weheka Inn.
We found it a very comfortable and pleasant experience. Very comfortable bed, well appointed room, good sized bathroom.
With only 2 floors was impressed with a very modern lift, great with plenty of luggage. The breakfast was very good, plenty of choice. We had a cooked breakfast which was served very quickly. The chap on reception was very helpful with all the local knowledge. We did a 1/2 day walk on Fox Glacier which was
a great experience. The local cafe's served great food and wine.
Had the best ever whitebait Omelette with approx 250g of whitebait. The best on the West Coast. Would recommend the whole experience and would stay there again with no hesitation.
