“A must eat at restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

If you are in Marlborough this is a must, Service and food are excellent. A place where you can just go for a drink and tapas as well.

“Getting better every time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

Third visit, mainly because it's good and local to Renwick. In the countryside outside Blenheim there aren't many places for evening meals.
The Tapas side of the restaurant opens at 4 p.m. and a good place for an earlysupper or after work get together.
The fine dining side of the restaurant is getting better. It is begining to learn how to relax and stop seeking Germanic perfection (I concur the previous Trip Advisor comments), leading to a smoother, calmer and speedier service. The food is good to very good although will need seasonal variations to avoid menu fatigue. Napery, glasses and atmosphere were good.
Overall, a welcome addition to the evening dining scene outside Blenheim.

“excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

Great to have an evening restaurant so close to Renwick with exquisite food! yes it's a little pricey and classy in the restaurant area. If you don't know what to do with the many forks and knifes go to the tapas area and you feel right at home there

“Could be Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

The restaurant recently relocated to lovely new space on a vineyard, now called "Gibbs on Godfrey." We understood that the chef was Michelin restaurant trained and went with high expectations of a good meal. The space is delightful, with every table having a picturesque view of the vines and distant mountain ranges. Candlelight and white cloth service promised a special evening. The experience fell short. Our waitress did not speak English sufficiently to explain the offerings. The start was great with a platter of complimentary amuse bouche of olives, spiced nuts and shot glasses of chunky gazpacho. We ordered as starters platter of various items that included a prawn on ribbons of zucchini, cheese with a cherry tomato in olive oil, few clams - - nothing terrible but nothing memorable. For our main, we had the cote de boeuf for two. The beef was roasted simply with salt and served with a pat of herbed butter and a bit of a salty reduction in a separate saucer. The sides were unimaginative wedges of potatoes and mix of broccoli and cauliflowers, slightly overcooked. Again nothing terrible but nothing delicious. The one exception was the end of the meal, a lovely apricot claffouti, served with good cups of coffee.

“Great food, just needs a little less perfectionism”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

I have my difficulties rating this place and really thought a while what to say. Most important thing first, the food is excellent and while some combination may sound a little unusual at the first look at the menu, they go really well, so don't hesitate to order anything
Service was prompt and very friendly, but here's where we had our doubts. These guys just try a little to much German perfectionism. We were told that almost all staff is German or Swiss since only that guarantees really trained professionals. Service really followed all the "gastronomic rules" but that may just have been a little too much. This is NZ, so relax, guys! Don't be afraid of local staff and don't try to be to professional.
Nevertheless, the place is surely worth a visit if you feel like some fine dining.
