“Good atmosphere...less than average food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Good atmosphere, the locals were friendly, the food was definitely below par. Bland, tough rib eye steak, no seasoning, average salad with too much dressing and an exorbitant price tag. Such a shame with the wonderful service.

“Pub Food that is ordinary”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Renwick is not a large town and there are limited places to dine. The Cork and Keg is one of the few pubs that provides food and drink. We were a party of four, one had the Fishermans sea food basket, which was made up of all fried food with a large quantity of potato chips and easily recharged the cholesterol levels. Two had the beef hot pot and Yorkshire Pudding. It was served in small pottery pie dishes with the Pudding floating on top and was tasty even though the pudding was leathery and forgettable. One had the Rib Eye Steak and chips. It was ordered medium cooked and arrived well done. The chips, which accompanied most if not all dishes, were crisp and there was some salad on the side. The rib eye was tasty even though the most expensive dish on offer. Over all the meal provided sustenance, but was forgettable – even for a pub meal.

“local pub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Although there was not lots to choose from on the menu, the service was friendly and the fish and chips were good. It was very quiet, but perhaps we were there early. We loved Daisy, the cat!

“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Don't go here if you want decent food. We had the seafood in a basket, which was a selection of breaded seafood from a packet either baked in the oven or deep-fried. Given the fantastic ingredients available in NZ it was a shame they had not made more effort not learnt how to prepare fresh sea food. Would not go again.
