“Great hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

We are a family of 4 (with two teenage boys). We booked this motel after going through the various options featured in TripAdvisor. The owners of Sierra Motel, Neville & Cathy, are wonderful, relaxed, down-to-earth Kiwis. They made us feel very welcome. We stayed in a two bedroom unit which was surprisingly clean and had all the amenities we needed. The motel information folder contains the menus of most of the local cafes and restaurants. If you are into fishing, Neville has all the gear you need for hire. There is a golf course across the road from the motel. Didn't bring your golf gear? No worries. Neville has some vintage sets in his garage for just such emergencies. Now, that's what makes a perfect stay!

We stayed at 10 motels in NZ & this can be said of all of them: they are owner operated (not chains), spotlessly clean, contain refrigerator, microwave, TV, blow dryer, plenty of hot water & the beds are comfortable, but the rooms are on the small side. They have absolutely terrible in-room coffee. Expect to pay 30% more for comparable food & lodging than in the U.S.

This place is nothing special, but adequate. My heater failed during the night, but this can happen anywhere. Be advised that there are limited & mediocre places to eat in Omarama.

My Husband and I stayed here 1 night with our parents and our 16 year old son as a last minute stop over on our way home to Kaikoura. Excellent quality rooms. Very clean and fresh, fully equiped kitchen, great friendly service. Good value for money,
Highly recommend staying here. Omarama is a great stop over point for good fishing and hot spas in there area. We will be back.

My husband and I ,along with a brother and sister in law, stayed here overnight and had such a good rest . The owner made us feel so welcome and he couldnt have made our stay any better . The units that we had were extremely comfortable and clean and the facilities were more than we had expected. Everything that we needed for a our home cooked meal was included and the bed was so comfy, we didnt want to leave the next morning. Washers and Dryers were available as well as an iron if needed . Neville went above and beyond as far as we were concerned and we would certainly recommend his motel to anyone planning a trip in that vicinity . Thanks again for a warm, Kiwi stay ,

Our room for 3 nights at Sierra was at the far end, large and well laid out, with a lounge/kitchen, wonderfully spacious bathroom (great shower!), and separate bedroom. We were in that location for my husband's fishing, and Neville was very helpful with suggestions--we're indebted to him for pointing us to the beautiful valley of the Hakataramea River. Omarama itself is small; Neville's suggestion of dining at the very good Wrinkly Rams next door was one we followed all 3 evenings. We can't imagine there's a better place than Sierra in Omarama.

Lovely people, very nice rooms at a very reasonable price. I stayed here for a week using it as a base for fishing, gliding and hiking. Brilliant!

I stayed here with my mom, Husband and teenage daughter and we had unit twelve which had 2 rooms. the lounge area was huge. the only thing is it had hobs and not an oven, but we made do with the hobs.

All the rooms were spacious. The owners were really nice. We stay here almost every year and it always gets better.
