We had a marvellous stay. The lodge is set in beautiful bush high on a hill above the Matakitaki valley with stunning views to the surrounding ranges and across the river. It’s an eco-lodge with solar panels, elegantly and carefully designed to fit with its environment and catch the sun all day - and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. There are some very pleasant short walks in the near countryside or one can drive into the Kahurangi or Nelson Lakes National Parks for more challenging expeditions, after one of which I basked on the entirely private sunny balcony. Both balcony and spa bathroom windows open to the trees and sky so one feels one is still in the bush. Wendy and Steve were thoughtful and sympathetic hosts who looked after us beautifully with gourmet food, attention to our diet preferences, and information on the locality. The small Murchison museum, evoking the lives of local people in the long distant past, is worth a visit. For postcards of local sights and landscape I found it was better to go to the museum than the i-site.

Thank you Helen, we certainly enjoyed the time you both spent with us. Glad you enjoyed the range of walks that Murchison has to offer, and a spa bath, glass of wine, good meal and comfortable bed rounds off a perfect day!
