I stayed here with a friend wanting to go to some wineries. Our greeting and check in was pleasant and informative. the room was great, large and clean and defiantly comfortable.
great for anyone, including families.

Room Tip: check time of year if you want to swim.

We stayed for three nights over the Easter long weekend and rented a self-contained unit.

The unit was nice and roomy and the toilet and shower were clean.
The fridge was a nice large size and clean too.

There is a microwave sitting on a perch directly above the sink in the kitchenette area, which is annoying as you constantly risk hitting your head on it when you want to use the sink. It would be much better to sit on top of the fridge. Not sure why it wasn't.

The double bed was quite soft and was not very comfortable - but this may just be a personal preference though.

We had an infant with us so it was useful having the bunk beds next to us - it meant we didn't need to set up a portable cot.

The holiday park is set in a beautiful spot - we were staying with family who had sites on the waterfront. It is a beautiful view. And we even caught fish which was a bonus!

Overall a pleasant stay. Just a few small tweaks will make it exceptionally good.

Stayed at the park for one night camping. The setting is lovely, right on the waterfront. Apart from this we were all quite disappointed. Seemed a lot of 'permanents' on site which made the place look a bit shabby. The facilities were all very clean but quite outdated, particularly the ladies toilet block. The showers are described in their leaflet as 'metered' - that's fine, but I can't wrap my head around why you also have to pay for them!? It was dark and dingy in the ladies shower block and I couldn't wait to get out! I was surprised when I later read Trip Advisor reviews - we stayed at various sites during 3 weeks in North Island and this was the poorest and also interestingly the only Family Parks site we stayed at! From our experience the competition do it much better for the same price!

This is the second time we stayed here and this time we went down with our coffee group with lots of kiddies. The management was really accommodating to is with checking in early and it's the best spot to kick back and relax.

We booked a caravan for one night off-season (just) in early April so we could go to a gig at the Leigh Sawmill. The caravan was great - clean and very well looked after, pristine. The price was good for what we got and with a toaster, fridge and awning with chairs and table we had a really nice stay. The caravans are also waterfront so 10/10 for position and the facilities are good.
I would recommend staying here, especially when it's not high season if you want a quiet lovely trip (imagine its very popular in summer as its in such a GREAT location with such lovely views.

We don't have kids and this is a great place for them so if children running round and having a great (and exuberant) time is not your thing - noise, early starts etc you might want to re-think where your trip - or simply take earplugs :).

We will definately come again and bring a kayak.

Room Tip: Everything we saw was great and its almost all waterfront with the cabins being a little further bac...

We had one night at Whangateau in April.
The location by the water is spectacular
It's a clean, well run operation. Very efficient.
We had a powered site by the water. Well recommended.
Lots of facilities for kids - games room etc.
Good location close to Wakatana and the Saturday farmers markets are a must.
Also great pubs and restaurants nearby if you don't fancy cooking.
We only stayed one night as part of a round NZ trip (from Australia) and would definitely go back.
Would be a great weekend location for Aucklanders!

Room Tip: book the powered sites furthest away from the camp HQ for privacy or closer if you need the amenitie...

Excellent facilities at very reasonable prices, and in a wonderful location. We had dinner on the waterfront directly in front of our tents and after seeing an abundance of sea life during dinner we threw some lines in the water and caught fish without having to move. We only had an overnight stay but wanted to stay longer. Definitely going to stay here again
