“Camping at Hahei Holiday Resort..?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We went as a group of families and loved the location and its closeness to the beach, absolutely stunning. The campsite which calls itself a resort was very disappointing compared to others we have stayed at. The toilet block where very old and not well maintained and the staff at reception were not very friendly or helpful. Overall we felt it wasn't worth its high nightly charge for a campsite and probably wouldn't stay there again.. feedback was similar from others in our group..

Thank you for your comments. The location is absolutely stunning. Hahei Holidays has been in existence for some time, and yes the facilities have been part of the park for many years. It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your experience, and found staff unfriendly. We hope that you do come again in the future – February March is a quieter time and peak season rates to not apply.

We found the facilities tired and run down. Only new was the barbaque area. Would have hated to be there in full capacity time because there was queing for kitchen access -food cooking and dish washing. Same with laundry. I understand why most campers take their own fridges because available ones are maxed to compasity and filthy . One fridge smelt so bad we had to purchase freezer space for $4 a day. Not ideal when u paying already $100 a day. Glad showers were free. We informed staff of fridge problem (smell). Nothing was done for the remainder of the stay and in fact they suggested we not use fridge due to theft. On a positive note the Beaches were stunning.

The facilities are part of the parks history and for many part of the appeal.
It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your stay.
The beach is stunning, and a visit during February or March is outside peak rates.
The cleaning staff generally do a thorough job, however it would seem on this occasion the fridge slipped through the system.
Theft has not generally been an issue from the fridges, and freezer box hire allows peace of mind for expensive cuts of meat, or storage for quantity. Thank your for thoughts.

Went to Hahei Holiday Resort on a family camping trip over the January holidays.

Sadly it was rather disappointing. First thing that I noticed was that the staff at reception where not very friendly and had mucked up our site bookings (we were a group of 5) despite booking half a year ahead of time to ensure we got what we wanted. We didn't get an apology or an offer to fix their mistake.

When we finally got to our site it looked unkempt and even worse there was so much litter that I had to bribe all our kids to help us clean up before we even put up our tents.

The facilities were far too few for the size of the resort and were run down and grubby. Really disappointing. The loo facilites closest too us were tiny in size, rickety and there were only 4 cubicles for a really large area with one basin to wash your hands and brush your teeth in. Because the loos were so over used, they were dirty half the time and had weeds growing up into the cubicles from outside.

The communal freezer in the kitchen was so dirty that it smelt like something had died inside. As a result we choose to spend the extra money to hire a locked freezer drawer that were provided at another part of the resort, although we only had access to our food twice a day. We're glad we did hire the drawer in the end as we were told was theft and we ourselves had a few things nicked that we inadvertently left in the kitchen

The staff seemed uninterested and grumpy half the time.

The positive things about this place is it's location and that a truck came around to pick up the rubbish bags everyday (pity they didn't clean up the litter too). Also they had outdoor movie nights while were were there which was quite cool.

Time for a overhaul is my opinion on this place. And sorry, we won't be going back.

It is good of you to take the time to share your thoughts. Hahei Holidays is a family run business, and has been in operation for the past 50 years, some of the facilities have been part of the holiday park for many years. There are other toilet facilities within the park and only a short distance from any site.

It is unfortunate you thought the staff were unfriendly.
There is no communal freezer available at this park

The freezer room is an option for those who choose to use it. Free rubbish bags are handed out on arrival, and available during office hours, there is a daily rubbish collection from your site. We do encourage guests to dispose of their rubbish outside the camp collection time. General rubbish and recycling facilities are available outside the main kitchen area and are cleared regularly.

We stayed in Hahei with our family so had two powered sites. The resort was average, the facilities tired and old, not enough bar b ques for the amount of customers and all very overpriced. I had problems booking on the internet so telephoned and then had to go back to internet booking and then problems paying the deposit as it became clear that the staff do not actually read the emails. We were very disappointed as my daughter in law had heard good reports and really wanted to go there. None of us would go there again.

There are corporate operations offering a different style of camping – our facilities are basic we agree. Hahei Holidays has been offering camping for the past 50 years and some of the facilities have been part of the park for a long time. Plans are afoot for change however the vision is to retain the true camping experience. Thank you for bringing the barbques to our attention and it is certainly something we will discuss. There is a particular form required in order to complete a peak season reservation and ALL enquiries are directed to that form. Thank you for taking the time to express your feelings

We were travelling with another couple and looked at a couple of cabins - perfectly ok but a bit basic - before deciding on a studio with a queen sized bed and a sofa bed. Our room had a decent, modern kitchenette with sharp knives ( a necessity in my book, but often lacking!), a microwave and hot plate. The shower room was clean, modern and had plenty of shelving. We had a small terrace with table and chairs and a barbecue close by. The campsite has a very good laundry area with plenty of machines, sinks and washing lines. The communal kitchen also looked good, although we didn't use it. The site was busy with children but all well behaved and enjoying themselves, and it is beside a long, sandy beach - good for swimming and very scenic.

Room Tip: The studios cost a little more but are worth it!

We arrived on Christmas day and left on New Years day. We were two families with children in adjoining unpowered camp sites. The sites were both huge with lots of room to spread out and be comfortable with boats, tents and shade cover. The facilities were immaculate. The staff, extremely friendly and very helpful. The location is ideal, mere steps from the beach, the best ice cream and pizza a quick walk down the road. And the neighbours supplied the perfect combination of ages of girls to compliment ours! We'll definitely be back! Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

That is awesome – thank you so much for taking the time to deliver such positive feedback. The location is certainly perfect, and it is ideal having the village only a short stroll from the park. We will most definitely pass on your compliments to the team who work hard to keep the facilities up to scratch. Many families book from year to year and great friendships have been forged as a result. We hope that you are able to reunite with new found friends on your next visit.

We checked in for a long weekend on a Friday, to find no mowing been done on site. I would also think that when claiming to be a resort the overall maintainence on property, would be up to scratch. The toilet and shower facilities are only cleaned once daily, and not many of them for size of camp. Mildew on walls and ceilings ablution block. Also on day of our departure, no cleaning had been done on toilet/ shower facilities since previous day, and at 7.30am the kitchen area was still locked, so no one could cook breakfast of have any hot water for coffees, etc. Very disappointed this time round. Had stayed before, but place has certainly lost its appeal :(

By definition, “Resort” is a place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose. The facilities are cleaned twice daily during peak season which finished on the Sunday of the long weekend, and most likely why the kitchen had not been reopened at the usual 6am . This is entirely our fault, and we apologise for the inconvenience. The humidity and damp environment of ablution blocks makes keeping ahead of the mildew a challenge. The walls and ceilings are part of the detailed cleans, which are carried out regularly however this is not a daily task.

We have made a note of your comments – and have taken steps to ensure that this will not happen again. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay.
