“Great camp ground”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

We had a group of three families camping here over New Year and early January, and were given three camp sites in a row, great service considering it's their busiest time of the year. Generous camp sites, and only a minute's walk to the beach. Beautiful, safe beach. Facilities are good, family-friendly, safe camp ground (security guard patrols the grounds).

We stayed in a basic cabin at Hahei Holidays camping ground and found the facilities very clean and tidy. As a childless couple we were worried about early and late noise but we had no complaints on that score at all and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Being just over the dunes from an exquistite beach with pink sand and lovely island views was fabulous. There were queue for showers at peak hours but basically it was what one would expect. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful and on our last night we moved to a studio unit which was top class - as good as a motel. Would recommend

Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Taking a stroll to the sand dunes each morning is the perfect way to start the day. The security guard over the peak season is an asset and also is helpful keeping noise to a friendly level. Thank you again, and look forward to seeing you in the future.

Had a cool time 2012-2013 in a caravan site which was huge! We do only have a wee caravan but we had so much space. The facilities are excellent and alwyas clean. If a problem did arise it was seen to imediately. This was our first trip to Hahei and can now understand why it is such a popular spot. Thank you to all the team at Hahei for making our holiday very memorable.
Great for kids as it is very safe and you see security staff wondering around all the time which is compforting in such a busy spot.

Would highly reccomend.

My husband and I stayed at this wonderful campground on our very last night in beautiful NZ before returning back to the States. We were most impressed with the warm welcome we received from the staff and very happy and pleased to enjoy a gorgeous campsite, overlooking the beautiful beach and ocean. We were thrilled to be able to enjoy the Cathedral Cove track from our very own campsite. Even though the campground was busy, we found the kitchen and bathroom nice and clean (and the Kiwis so friendly!). We even came across someone baking a chocolate cake in the kitchen (while camping, no less!). This is THE place to stay in the Coromandel Peninsula area!! We will definitely be returning the next time we visit.

What a shame you only had one night with us! Not nearly enough time to see and enjoy our beautiful part of the country but thankfully long enough to make the right impression. It is always our pleasure to welcome travellers and lovely to hear that you want to come back again. Thank you for your words of support. Look forward to seeing you another time.

We travelled to Hahei on our recent trip around NZ in a campervan.
We got a very good site overlooking the sea and 'out' of the main camping area. This was the most expensive campsite we stayed at during our trip.
Hahei is a very small town/village and Hahei Holidays is about the only place to stay. Nearby is the Hot water beach which also has a holiday camp. This beach is an amuzing place to visit to experience the natural thermal pools in the sand, there are also cafes which Hahei does not have.
Stock up on food and drinks before hitting town as the general store is very expensive and limited, the next major town is at least 30 minutes away.
Overall the park is ok, it is very big and has a lot of long term campers. Ammenities are clean but basic.

Room Tip: Stock up on food, there is limited places to eat out or shop economically.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. The sea view camper van sites are our premium sites and have a view second to none. It is a shame that you did not get to experience the cafe and restaurant as well as a pizza parlour and fish and chip store in the village. We are fabulously situated to enable guests to experience a wide variety of natural wonders and amazing activities all within a 30 minute radius.

We have stayed at this campsite a few times over the last couple of years and we come back because despite being expensive the location is incredible. Hahei is a beautiful beach and the campsite is right on the beach. Over the peak Christmas and New Year period the camp is extremely busy and you will wait for everything - showers, cooking etc. Outside of these times, the facilities are fine. Adding some showers (particularly female ones!) wouldn't go amiss but otherwise the camp has been slowly improving and it is noticeable that feedback is being considered. We have never had an issue with booking and have been accommodated near friends and family - but this is partly because we always choose the cheaper pitches.

Room Tip: If you are tenting - choose the lots further back as they are cheaper, quieter and still really clos...

WE SAY... Thank you for your support and great tip! Sites are cheaper in F and G block throughout the peak season, and a little quieter. Rigorous over hauling in the booking systems has meant that this year we have met over 90% of customer requests. We are aware that the facilities are stretched to the max over the ten day period from Christmas. Our Tip: February March is a stunning time to visit Hahei Holidays.

Great stay at Hahei once again. Lovely big camp sites right near the sea. How wonderful to wander over the sand dunes onto the beach. Friendly staff and the facilities were always clean. Thanks, we'll be back again!

Thank you so much – it is always a pleasure to have you stay! There is nothing quite like collecting bunny tails off the sand dunes on your way back from a morning swim :). Autumn, Winter and Spring are beautiful also if you are able to take time out of a busy schedule.
