“Yummy Delights in Cloud Forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

The owner, Jose, ran the tour of the farm and was very informative about the process of making chocolate from cacao beans. A relatively small enterprise, but really efficient. We were taken around the farm and shown the different plants, such as ginger, that are combined with their chocolate. An extremely interesting tour and Jose took his time to explain and answer all questions. The cafe has lunch, brownies, which we sampled. Delicious! You can buy chocolate bars, coffee beans, etc. at very reasonable prices. Very hard to go back to Cadbury's chocolates after sampling the chocolate from El Quezal!! Highly recommended.

“Mindo's Chocolate Epicenter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Mindo is a tranquil little town for birdwatching, rafting and hanging out, and El Quetzal is at the center of some specialized culinary activities you wont find elsewhere. If you're hoping to find something a little different and off the beaten path. El Quetzal de Mindo is a place worth visiting.

Chocolate making is their primary activity. They roast, winnow, grind and conch on the premises, and add a social benefit by buying beans directly from a farmers' cooperative at above market price.

As far as the chocolate baked delicacies called brownies go, there are hundreds of great recipes out there. You don't need to go all the way to Mindo to find the world's best brownie, thought it's certainly worth a try.
Their work with farmers has paid off in helping improve the quality of their chocolates.

The food is fresh and most of it straight from the garden-chickens are butchered fresh on site. It's nice to see a business that helps support the community and works with the local people.

“Delicious!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

The chocolate your runs a 4pm every afternoon in English or Spanish. The cost is $5 per person. You don need to book. Just turn up 10mins or so beforehand. The tour was interesting and we got to taste at the various stages. Mixing our own combinations was a nice twist too but the highlight was really the brownie - delicious! Maybe a tad overpriced for what it was but it was a good way to spend he afternoon. If you really want to learn something make sure you ask plenty of questions- oh, and make a chilli ginger chocolate mix, yum!

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

The brownies are excellent!!! This was interesting. Learned about cacoa. Also tasted an actual stevia plant. He gave us this leaf to taste. That was so cool. It was interesting to learn about the pods. We went to the jungle after this and saw people drying their cacoa on the side of the road. They fence it off with rocks on the pavement.

“Interesting tour, Yummy chocolates!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

This was a very interesting informative tour. You learn all about the process of making chocolate, are taken on a tour of the facilities, get to sample lots of chocolate, sauces and brownies, and finally, you get to buy lots of yummy chocolate products in their store and restaurant.... And you defintely will because it is really good! Try the dried ginger....it is really tasty. We're home now, are eating our chocolate and wishing we had bought twice as much!
