“Not a bad hotel when staying for work...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

It isn’t on the beachfront but it’s only a short walk to the beach with its restaurant and bars though you do have to cross a busy road to get there. But night or day it was safe to walk home and had no issues the week I stayed there.

Hotel itself was pleasant enough with helpful staff and decent breakfast choice to greet you everyday. Though those that prefer cold meats, bread, fruit and cereals will be better catered for than those preferring a hot breakfast.

The hotel room was also very pleasant with all the usual amenities you come to expect. Asking for a room that faces the beach is definitely a plus point. Internet access is not free which is a minus point and be aware power cuts from time to time do happen in Macae.

Plenty restaurants / bars on the beachfront to keep you occupied where most serve the same food with a different slant so can’t really go wrong. Only problem if you’re staying any length of time is that you soon run out of ones to try. Lucca, Iihote Sul and Sueste are ones to come to mind with Durval being probably the most popular with expats and business folks alike. Was taken to Macae centre for lunch where we ate at a great place called Boom but recommended to stick to the beach area in the evenings if you're not a local.

I plan to stay at this hotel again next time I’m back in Macae. Otherwise I would try out Comfort Suites on the beachfront.

Thank you for your comments.
Our team is working to meet our guests with ever greater distinction.
I would just remember that we have a shuttle that can take our guests to the beach, and the same should be scheduled with the reception.
We hope to see you on your next trip to Macae.

If compared to other Four Points, this Macae hotel is one of the last I would pick. However, there are no good options available when we talk about staying in Macae! Prices are awfully high, but Macae is known as a city even more expensive than Rio. "Gringos" are literally ripped off there. The hotel could try some improvements, though. The room and bathroom are fairly simple, but decent. Internet worked fine, but is charged separately. Breakfast was just average and need some more options and quality (i.e. bitter fruits, cold eggs, just butter and no gelly etc). Well, all in all, an average hotel! Keep your hopes low and bear in mind there are no other good options available (as far as I know)!

Room Tip: The views of the ocean are great even from the right- side rooms. No need to get front rooms.

I recently spent a week in Macae on business and chose the Sheraton based on TA reviews which gave an accurate assessment of the hotel. It was an improvement on my previous Macae stay at the Blue Tree hotel and probably is the best option in Macae, an oil field city not noted for quality hotels. The room was reasonably spacious with a good sized desk and a flat screen TV with limited cable channels. The bed was very comfortable. As always, the Sheraton charges for in-room wi-fi which was quite slow. The room was clean with a nice view of the ocean. The hotel has a well equipped gym. Although located on a 4-lane highway, it is easy to cross and only a short walk to the beach and many bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: Request a room with balcony and ocean view.

Macae iw an oil town swamped by american workers and locals.
this hotel is in a prime location and is a decent hotel offering every aspect you could need.
although it may not be upto the usual sheraton standard you must remember this is brazil and it is far superior to many others in the area
I highly recommend this hotel

From reading the reviews of this property I was not looking forward to my stay. I must say I was pleasantly suprised when I actually got here - I guess when you're expecting the worst things can only get better. This hotel is in a good location for walking to local markets, restaurants and the beach. Yes, you do have to cross a relatively busy highway to get to the beach but it's not a big deal as long as you have crossed a street before. Look both ways, pay attention. Common sense. I've found the housekeeping to very good; my first day in the room they took the time to line up my shoes for me which I had left in a pile on the floor when I "unpacked". Nice touch, in my opinion.
The bar and restaurant area in the hotel is nice; can't comment on the food as I haven't tried it yet but the service is OK. You'll get tired of the Eric Clapton concert DVD they play constantly on the big TV, unless you're a huge Eric Clapton fan. The majority of the staff do not speak English or have only a fleeting knowlege thereof. Talking slower or louder doesn't help, so don't bother. Learn a few phrases in Portuguese and it will be helpful to you and the staff. "Please" and "Thank you" go a long way in any language. Bartender almost fell over when I tipped him, so apparently that's not done much here.
You will pay for internet, but not a lot compared to other properties I've stayed at. My experience with the wireless connection has been very good, even with multiple devices connected. Some reviewers have commented on the gym, which I can report is now under renovation for the next month, so should be some improvement there. Overall, I am comfortable here and I'm relatively satisfied with the service. It would seem some reviewers are used to being carried around on a big fluffy pillow when they travel. If that is you, well, life will continue to be difficult wherever you go. In other words, take the negative reviews with a grain of salt.

Room Tip: Noise from the highway can be loud on the lower floors, especially if you like to keep the balcony d...

Shame on SPG for having this hotel operate with their current standards... I´ll not elaborate on my thoughts about this hotel. I´ll list the facts instead and you can decide yourselves:

- Hotel charges for internet connection. I hired a package but after using 25min no page would open. Contacted Front Desk and instead of sorting it they tried to have me on the phone with a 3rd party to get it sorted. To top it off they tried to charge me for the phone call to the "customer support". Obviously, I did not pay.
- Once, while preparing to order room service, requested the wine list and it "only" took them 30min to show up with the list.
- In the morning, after turning AC system off, water would flow through the ceiling as if it were a small waterfall. I informed them in my first day at the hotel and they never took any action.
- Cookies available in the mini bar of my room were expired. Front Desk was informed and tried to justify saying they hire another company to supply the mini bars.
- Requested a wake up call due to an early appointment and the hotel failed miserably in performing this simple task making me arrive a bit late at my destination.

Macae - an oil town with oil town hotels! This Sheraton is a poor example of the brand, signs peeling off the walls, air conditioning controls damaged in the rooms, lackluster service, complete rip off ($30+) for a lousy buffet breakfast - don't bother with it!, gym in poor condition and rooms average. Internet painfully slow - but it is everywhere here.
However - the views from the upper floors are spectacular, the rooms are at least a decent size if you are staying more than a week and its within easy walking distance of the beach. For a short stay I'd try one of the cheaper hotels on the beach front - if longer than a week and you want some space go here - really they are much the same in Macae!

Room Tip: Upper floors - 16 and up
