“Outstanding, in everyway....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Never to be disappointed. Returned to this gem of a restaurant for a family gathering. Location is easily accessible from interstate 195, at the beginning of New Bedford's north end that is being designated as an International boulevard due to the increasing multiple cultures emerging in the city. And Cotali Mar is the star of cultural Portuguese food and atmosphere. Upon entering the parking lot located behind the buildings Acushnet Ave front address door, one is greeted w an amazing enclosed outdoor courtyard. There is a huge free standing fireplace that must be fantastic to sit around in warmer weather. This amenity truly reflects the Portuguese culture of the city where one will find fabulous gardens nestled amongst tightly packed buildings in attempt to replicate the lush gardens of the Azore Islands where many of New Bedfords residents emigrated.

Once inside you are transformed into a world of its own, marble floors, columns, a classical European atmosphere. A place where one can "dress up" for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. This is not a place for mens BVD t-shirts, though jeans w nice shirts blend in with suits.

The bar/lounge area is huge, and doubles as a casual dining area. The mixed drinks are mixed correctly! The bartenders are attentive and courteous.

The dining room is beautiful. subdued lighting, white tablecloths, and candles create a serene atmosphere. Though the room was full the noise level was moderate, one could have a conversation w others w/o straining.

Now to the food. Outstanding tells it all, no matter what is ordered am sure there will be no disappointments. The dishes have such unique flavors that are traditional to Portuguese style of cooking, I had the swordfish w malho cru which is a spicy accompanying sauce that was so reminiscent of my grandmother cooking years ago. There were eight in our party and all thoroughly enjoyed every item from appetizers, to the entrees, to the desserts. The wine list was extensive with good selections.

The wait staff was attentive w/o being overbearing, available when needed, pleasant and articulate.

This is an upscale establishment, you pay for what you get, and you do get outstanding food and service. Highly recommend this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

“Best Food, Service and Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

This is a wonderful restraunt hid in plain sight on Acushnert Avenue in New Bedford. I have been there several times and never disappointed with what I have ordered. The last time I went I had the Pecan crusted Salmon, FANTASTIC!!!!! I love portuguese food. Va made some dishes that noone could ever touch, but this restaurant will have you wanting to go back again and again. It does not matter what you order, you will NEVER be dissappointed.

“Up scale Portuguese Dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

My wife and I wanted to go to an upscale fine dining resturant to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. The wait staff was friendly, curtious and attentive. The dining room and the building were beautiful. The food was excellent in both presentation and flavor. My wife is a very fussy person when it comes to food perparation. She loved every part of her meal. We will be back again! We highly recommend a visit!
