“Could have been better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This was the second time we stayed at this property. The staff was friendly and helpful, but hard to understand the managements thoughts. This property offered a special to its rewards members, which we took advantage of , because it was our 40th anniversary we had already booked our airfare to Maui, and we were able to join that with the special this Marriott had offered. Being a Platinum member of the Marriott rewards program and a returning guest and our 40th anniversary ( they did ask the purpose of our visit ) I was really disappointed when our room assignment was overlooking the kiddie pool. We were told that the hotel was sold out and that was it. We stayed in that room for 2 nights and were given a better room for the rest of our stay. I really was surprised that we did not even recieve a note saying anything about our anniversary, not a good way to bring back someone to celebrate a special event.
The rooms are nice, with a fridge and a large TV, nice balcony and a coffee maker. The Wailea Shops are a 2 minute walk, with stores and resturants. There is also a Whaler General Store and an ABC store where you can buy snacks and drinks at a pretty good price.
There is no beach at this hotel, but a short walk gets you to a nearby beach, you can rent chairs for the beach.

Room Tip: There are a variety of rooms some have no view and others do, the resort is pretty spread out, so if...

“Nice property.....but needs updating.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

I've been here a number of times and still have an enjoyable time. But after you've visited other "resorts", you'll soon realize that this place is lacking the glamor and "bells and whistles" that are now the standard.

They've done a nice job updating the rooms to make them comfortable. The beds are "saggy" but the rooms are spacious, quiet, clean, and relaxing. But the property layout is awkward and spread out. You could walk quite a distance to get to the pools if your room is located in one of the remote buildings.

It gets crowded around the pools (there are two main pools, and one in another section of the property, and a kiddie pool with water slides). Guests often place towels on to the lounge chairs by 6:30am to reserve their spots. And there are not enough umbrellas to provide shade for those who prefer staying out of the sun.

Service from all the staff was very friendly and helpful. You really feel welcomed when ever your walk the grounds.

The Mala Restaurant is their main restaurant. They serve a buffet breakfast every morning for $27.95......over-priced and a real disappointment. Much of the food was overcooked or dried out as it sat in the warming units. The variety was minimal, and the taste was generic. The most satisfying item was the omelet station where it was cooked on the spot. If it's breakfast that you want, I suggest walking up to the shopping center (5-10min walk) and get a real breakfast at a more reasonable price.

My final gripe is the cost for parking: $30/day. And if you add that to your rental car's daily rate, it can be pretty steep. I've been to this place years ago when they did NOT charge for parking. I feel the rip-off because they're only following charges made by some other resorts.
(Makena Beach and Golf Resort...a couple of miles further down the road is just as nice and the self parking is FREE.)

Hope this helps....if you're wondering why I still keep coming it's because I can use my Marriott points to stay here.....so I put up with some of the deficiencies.....it's not a terrible place.

“The Infinity Pool Makes Up For Our Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We stayed in room 601. FYI the beds are almost touching the floor very low to the ground. The room was fine BUT the wall is against the elevator walls and we heard them going up and down all day and night. Plus the ice machine is across from our room but we didn't really hear that as much and the dreaded elevators. My husband is an Elite Platinum Member but due to our short notice stay (we extended our trip and had to leave our original hotel and the only availability was the Marriott) we could not get a room upgrade. We did get free Mai Tai's and a free Casaballa at the infinity pool. Wear lots of sunscreen because we stayed at the amazing infinity pool all day and got burned. Loved the Lava Flow drinks at poolside. The pool is not heated like we were told it was suppose to be but you have an open view of the beach and sunset. Try to get the Cabana's that are directly in the pool. There was a 4 day waiting list for those.

Room Tip: Ask to be moved if you are in room 601 and ask what other rooms are against the elevator walls.

“KILLER POOL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

This place aint cheap but what is in Maui? We splurged and got an oceanfront room which was fantastic: very close to the ocean, pool and snorkeling beach. A very pretty and easy, relaxing mood in the place. Do not be fooled by the term ocean view. This category of room really doesn't have much of a view of the ocean at all. The snorkeling at the beach next door is great and so easy to access. The food was spot on. The infinity pool is so nice it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. Why spend the $$$$ at the four seasons when you can have this?

Room Tip: See it before you book it!

“We were very happy here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We were very happy with our time in Wailea and with our stay at the Wailea Beach Marriott. We spent the first half of our Maui trip in Ka'anapali, but were a little disappointed with that part of the island. Ka'anapali was overcrowded and touristy, while Wailea was laid back and less populated. We were traveling as a couple with no children and found many other couples here too.

The Marriott was a nice resort with rooms that were slightly bigger, and slightly less expensive, than our resort in Ka'anapali. There were two lovely pools for the adults and a separate kids pool on a different part of the resort. The beach was not quite as nice as at our Ka'anapali resort, but it was still nice and swimmable. There was a wonderful pizza restaurant right around the corner (sorry I can't remember the name) and the prices were reasonable for Hawaii.

Overall, if we decide to visit Maui again this is definitely where we would stay.

Room Tip: We had a basic room but were very pleased with it.
