Once we decided to stay in Wailea, we deliberated a long time whether to stay at the Fairmont or the Grand Wailea. We were not disappointed by our choice. There were no problems finding chairs by the pool, the beach was very close, and it never felt too crowded. Everything was more expensive at the hotel, but Kihea was so close that we did quite a bit of off-site shopping (and eating). The main advantage was the room: sofa bed, microwave, fridge that was empty on arrival, and very large lanai. None of these were extra charges. Because there are so many deals right now, with the free breakfast and free night, it was very worth the stay at this beautiful, friendly hotel.

Great: We received an upgrade on check-in. We also received a fruit plate with cheese and chocolate on the day we checked-in. There are plenty of pools - including one with a slide and one for adults. The beach was so calm most of the time that we saw people out there all the time. Everyone we met except for maybe 1 male server at breakfast was friendly and put in more than they had to do to make our stay really fantastic.

Wierd things: There's a "do not disturb sign" but not "please clean now". No conditioner (although a little box with cotton swabs, etc.). The evening turn down often came around as we were getting ready for dinner and didn't include anything like a chocolate (or a shell as the Halekulani).

Other notes: We did the free parking (as recommended by some of the reviewers here). President Club members get free internet. You can find the connection to plug between your computer and the internet plug in the desk if they wireless doesn't work for you. They have a little store downstairs where you can get some food items: You can go in and order/pick up from the shelves or you can call down - it's cheaper than calling room service. We did stop at various stores in Kihei for our needs, though.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The pool was nice and relaxing and I was glad that they had a pool that was for adults only. They also had umbrellas by the pool at no cost, so you didn't need to rent a cabana if you didn't want one. The poolside lunch service was great and the guy (I think his name was Matt?) was SO nice and helpful, not just to us but to everyone. He knew everyone's names and was really just a fantastic employee... so friendly. I don't think we even ventured down to the beach, we loved the pool so much!!

I saw some people commented about the price of food, we did not eat dinner here but I did not think that the lunches and breakfasts were that bad. We got breakfast each morning at the coffee shop and they had fantastic muffins for maybe $3-4 each. The poolside lunch was about $20/entree which is pretty standard for poolside food.

I loved the size of our suite... it was huge and we had a huge balcony also. Lots of closet space. Housekeeping did a great job also.

Negatives: we were a little disappointed that we did not get leis at check in, and no one asked if it was our honeymoon, as the other hotels did. Also, the place is definitely dated. The lobby is just gorgeous and so is the adult pool, but if they could rehab this place they would probably get a lot more business. I read something that said it was last redone in 2001 and I was honestly surprised even from that. The rooms do look like they are from 2001, but many of the outdoor areas look MUCH older than that. After the first day, I didn't really mind it (I guess I saw the charm in it) but I could see a lot of people being picky and not liking it.

I also LOVED the location of the hotel - staying in Wailea was the best. We stayed in Kapalua for our first few days on Maui and it was night and day. Wailea is so much better and has everything right at your fingertips. We loved going to the shops at Wailea every day to eat - we ate at Ruth's Chris, Longhi's, Tommy Bahamas, as well as a few trips to Lappert's.. all were great.

I definitely recommend it for a relaxing vacation.

We've just returned from one of the best family vacations "ever" thanks to the service, staff and environs of the Fairmont Kea Lani. I read other Trip Advisor reviews before booking this hotel and would say that the negatives were either expected; like the expense of the resort or the greedy birds during outside dining. Hawaii is expensive, people!! Know that before you go. As for the birds, cover your food if it is left unattended!
We decided that we wanted the big resort experience but also wanted the option of preparing light snacks and dinner in the evening. The Fairmont Kea Lani 2 bedroom villa was the perfect option for our family of four; 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The villa was terrific; 2 floors of living space, full kitchen, washer/dryer, gas grill and plunge pool. They even provided kitchen & cooking basics like salt & pepper, paper towels, aluminum foil, plastic wrap and clothes detergent! The Fairmont package also included breakfast and a rental car which was a great deal.
We felt that everyone we met was truly invested in making sure that we had the vacation of a lifetime. We were always greeted with a smile and by our names. Expect to pay extra for pool cabanas ($95/day + 1 day free) and beach umbrellas. Register for The President's Club on the Fairmont website and you're eligible for complimentary Internet access during your stay! The Concierge Desk was very helpful in booking day trips including, our favorite, a day out on the Maui Magic, island tour & snorkeling off of Molokini. I'd highly recommend this resort and would stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani again without hesitation.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone with kids. since all rooms are suites, you are not constantly on top of each-other.
pros: bathrooms are huge, hotel is well maintained, most of the staff is friendly, and they <mostly> don't nickle and dime you for everything
cons:some of the staff like to make up their own rules when it comes to charging you. ex. our 2.5 year old likes to drink milk first thing in the morning. at checkin we were told that kids under 5 eat free and we can order/pick up food for them at anytime from any of the restaurants (pretty standard for a high class resort as this). so the first day, my husband picked up milk for him in the morning no problem. the next day, i went down to pick up milk for him and the frizzy haired cow (aka hostess) condescendingly told me that they have to see the child drink the milk in front of them (implying that i was somehow trying to steal the milk and drink it myself). on another occasion at dinner, we were charged $8 for our son's drink. when we asked the waiter about it, he told us "kids eat free not drink free", nobody else charged us for our son's drinks so i don't know what that was all about. other minor grievances, not sure how well the bathrooms in the room are cleaned on a daily basis. $20 delivery charge for room service - what is that about. $30/person breakfast buffet - ludicrous.
