“One of our Best Trips!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2004

Upon arrival, everyone was so gracious and helpful. When we checked in, we were offered an upgrade to a room with an ocean view. It was well worth the extra dollars, the sunset view was amazing. The hotel itself is very beautiful with a great pool area and terrific beach area. We would go to the beach and then go to the pool. We had no problem getting a chair, if we couldn't find one, we asked for assistance and someone was able to help us.

Food is pricey everywhere on the island. We went to the recommended restaurants outside of the hotel. Beware! You are paying for atmosphere. Since a lot of the restaurants were recommended by the big hotels, we found them to be extremely overpriced, quite noisy with the food being just okay and met its expectations. We did however, have one of the nicest meals at the Kea Lani at Caffe Ciao. Our table overlooked the adult pool area and the grounds of the hotel and there was a gentleman playing guitar. The price for the food was moderate but we really enjoyed the italian cuisine and it was very peaceful and relaxing with the music playing in the background. It was a great evening at our hotel.

The staff at the Kea Lani were amazing with the exception of the activities desk. I didn't quite care for the staff there. Most of the time they were on the phone and they didn't even acknowledge you sitting in front of them. They would acknowledge you only when they were ready. So we booked actitivities through other resources and had no problem. But again, everyone else throughout the hotel were friendly, gracious, and very receptive to any needs we may have had.

The spa facilities are just okay. On the women's side there are two showers, a cold shower and steam room. Not much in the facilites area. However, the massage I had was probably one of the best massages that I have ever had. So despite what the facilities lack, the masseur and masseuse will make up for it.

We are extremely glad we stayed at the Kea Lani and we recommend it highly. We appreciate the special touches that the staff at the Kea Lani provided for us.

We recently spent a week at the Kea Lani in Maui. (2 adults traveling with 2 children). It was perfection! We were on the 4th floor in a beautiful suite with a spacious wrap around lanai. The vista was gorgeous! The suite intself was nicely furnished with an oversized bathroom that works great with four people. The pull out sofa is comfy and the kids had their own TV complete with a DVD player. The bedroom was nice with its own slider to the lanai. Comfortable bedding, TV, closet with a safe. The staff was welcoming and housekeeping was excellent. Chuck got us off th a great start, accompanying us to our room and giving us helpful tips for the week. (Complimentary washer and dryer right on your floor). The pools are beautiful and immaculate. The beach is postcard perfect and just a short walk from the pool. Try the swim up bar and treat yourself to a cabana at the beach, you won't want to leave. Nick's Fishmarket was amazing, be sure to make your reservation in advance. The breakfast buffet is the best on the island. You never wait for a table and the food is delicious. There is an omlette station that is great for your own custom made breakfast prepared right in front of you. The service at the Kea Lani is top notch. Thet will go out of their way to make you happy. The hotel never seemed crowded and you are greeted with a smile and an Aloha every step of the way. Venture out to Sorento's on The Beach, Shops at Wailea and grab yourselves a shave ice. After your jaunt, you will be welcomed back to the Kea Lani in grand fashion. We had a hard time checking out! Can't wait to return.

It's a beautiful resort! We were married on the resort at their lovely gazebo and it was absolutely memorable. Their resort's service was impeccable, every room is a suite, and the attention the staff gives to details is something that made our stay truly enjoyable. If anyone is thinking of staying here then let me be the first to say that you can't go wrong by picking this place.

My husband and I were married at the Westin Resort on July 1st and then stayed at the Kea Lani for our honeymoon. We had the most memorable time. The rooms were so amazing....very spacious and beautiful. We had an incredible view of the pool and ocean. We had the "romance package" which included champagne and flower petals in the room, a couples massage that was awesome, and a private dinner in the cabana by the pool that was very romantic. We loved the adult pool: the waitstaff came by frequently and we had no problems getting a chair even though it was 4th of July weekend. Britney Spears was staying at the hotel at the time and we figured if it was good enough for her, definitely good enough for us! Nick's was by far our favorite restaurant on the island....immaculant service and delicious food. We cannot wait to celebrate our one year anniversary next year at this same resort! We definitely recommend it to anyone!

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon here and it really is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We have chosen luxury hotels around the world and this equals, if not surpasses, all of them. At first we thought we should stay in the Four Seasons next door, but we definitely made the right decision staying here. The rooms are huge!!!! The hotel caters for families and couples with both an adults only and kids pool and a beautiful beach and walking path. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the Kea Lani. We had stayed in Kaanapali some years ago and wanted to try another 5 star place as well as trying Wailea. What a great decision we made. The service was top notch. The complete ocean view room was amazing with the great views and cleanliness. Food was expensive - but expected. Nick's Fishmarket was fantastic as was the food and service. I would recommend Ferraro's in the 4 Seasons as another fantastic place to eat !! Try to get a table up front near the beach and sunset !! Nga , Dane and Bianca made our stay nice with their fantastic service. Secnted towels near the adult pool , sliced pineapples and poolside service - GREAT !! The Guava juice and towel upon check in was also neat. I would recommend the Kea Lani to anyone - they would not be disappointed.... It was really difficult to check out...

The Kea-Lani property is certainly one of the best on Maui. For us it was perfect. It is the happy medium between the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea Resort. The Four Seasons is very beautiful, ultra luxurious, with a great beach, restaurant, and workout area and spa, but has just an “ok” pool and is not really a great hotel for teens (too boring) but fabulous for older couples and honeymooners. The Grand Wailea, on the other hand, has GREAT pool ( see waterslides galore), but so-so hotel and very crowded…kids and teens love it but for my money I want a little peace and quiet..which you will not get anywhere at the GWR. If you want peace and quiet do not stay anywhere in Kaanapali. The Kea-Lani provides both peace and quiet and the teen boys ( 19,20, and 15) loved the big pool and slide. The beach was great, calm in the morning and bigger waves in the afternoon.

We stayed in a two bedroom Villa which was very nice, and was perfect since we would have had to rent two rooms anyway. This gave us a kitchen, so we went to Safeway and bought breakfast and lunch makings, pop, cookies, chips etc. This definitely saved us quite a bit of $ over the course of 8 days. The Villa also had a BBQ which the boys LOVED.. cooking their own burgers anytime they were hungry; which was all the time. The rooms were immaculate and the beds verrry comfortable. The “oceanview” villas do not look out at the ocean except from the upstairs bedroom, but that was fine with us. The boys jumped in the plunge pools and would go from pool, to ocean, to pool, to eat, and then start over again.

The service was spectacular, from housekeeping, to front desk, to the concierge. Everyone bent over backwards to be helpful and polite. We never had an issue where we felt we were not taken care of.

Still..there are things to be aware of.

1.If you want a beach chair right next to the pool you had better get up early and snag a chair. People get up early to reserve them. Even though the pool is not too crowded, chair space is a premium next to the pool.
2.The workout room is disappointing…there is a limited number of exercise machines and a small weight room. It was very crowded from 6:30 on until 9-10 am. There is also no shower/locker room to use after working out.
3.The food at Nick’s was very good but the service was slow. They have a “team” approach to table waiting, and it did not work very well. From start to finish dinner took us 2 hours.
4.Ciao was a great place to get food and drink.. but food and drink anywhere on the property was very expensive.
5.Make dinner reservations wherever you go. It is impossible to go to a good restaurant without them.

Best restaurant: Sansei in West Maui.
