“Perfect spot to enjoy a Maui holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

The hotel is white, airy and beautiful; the grounds are gorgeous! We were lucky to have a lovely suite, with patio doors to the balcony (lanai) from both the bedroom and the living room and overlooking the adult pool, the huge garden areas, and the ocean. We could also see several other islands in the distance, watch boat traffic and other water activities taking place down at the beach. (Polo Beach) The hotel, the restaurants, the beach were not crowded during our stay. There was plenty of room for our rental car on the roof of the parking garage where the stalls are a bit wider.
Staff and management were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed being taken care of'. A special shout-out to Jasmine at the Concierge Desk. Thank you for all your good advice, travel maps, help with booking activiies. As well, a big thank you to Percy of Housekeeping, whose smile lit up the room. She made sure our room was always clean and very tidy.
Mahalo to everyone we interacted with! It was a real pleasure to meet you and your beautiful island.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on a higher floor with an ocean front view. The hotel kindly provided it.

The Fairmont is really a wonderful hotel. The staff was amazing. We never ran across anyone who wasn't friendly, helpful and seemingly happy to be doing their job.
I needed a place to make a Conf call early in the morning....the front desk hooked me up with a empty room for a few hours. The hotel car service was fast and efficient. The pools are smallish....but very nice. The beach are was great.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and a great layout if you have kids. Big porch...fridge, microwave, 2 separate sleeping areas, big bathroom.
Only drawbacks...food options are limited for such a large hotel. Lobby bar needs more staff. Some of the the design of the hotel is a bit dated. But they are clearly working on renovations so that's good. The cafe/general store is a great spot for grabbing food and beverages for the room.

If you can get the breakfast buffet included in your rate it is well worth it! It comes out to about $40 per person per day if it isn't. It includes an omelette station and the things you expect from a nice brunch place. The ocean view rooms are well worth the extra money there is not a bad view to be had on the ocean side. The beach area is great however get up early to reserve a spot closer to the water they fill up fast. There was a fair amount of fish so it made snorkeling enjoyable right of the beach. The Signature suites have a kitchenette which was fantastic to have on hand to make your own lunches and have plenty of beverages on hand.

My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui for our honeymoon. There are a lot of nice options for luxury hotels and resorts to stay at in Maui, but in my opinion this is the best overall for your dollar. Sure if money is no object why would you not stay at the Four Seasons? We love nice hotels, but we rarely spend enough time in our suite or on the resort grounds to justify the costs of higher end resorts when we travel. Paying over $500 a night for the worst room at the Four Seasons or the Ritz is not worth it in my opinion for our style of travel at the moment.

First let me address the 1 star reviews on Tripadvisor. They are completely rediculous and pay no attention to them. The Fairmont Kea Lani is a beautiful resort and for my tastes has the nicest overall lobby, grounds and rooms when compared to the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea. I think the grounds at the Grand Wailea are a bit cheesey but then again everyones' tastes are different. The Four Seasons is very nice with clean lines (as they always are), but I still like the lobby and location at the Fairmont better.

What we loved about The Fairmont was the size of the suites, the lobby, the adult only pool, Cafe Ciao and the uncrowded Polo Beach where the resort is located on. Polo Beach is awesome and has some of the best snorkelling on the island. See my review. The staff were great and helpful. Self parking is free. The first night has complementary valet parking.

So why not 5 stars? Well it loses a star for a few reasons. My biggest gripe would be the food. There are plenty of options but the food is not that great and way overpriced when compared to the quality. We ate off the room service menu when we first arrived and it was awful. The next morning we elected for the breakfast buffet which was decent but to pay $35 each for freshly made omelettes, juice and a few other breakfast items is a complete ripoff. Cocktails are well made but again super pricey. So we elected to eat and drink off resort and bought our own groceries for most of our trip which was a great decision and saved us a lot of money. I have to say Cafe Ciao which is located on the T level on the left wing of the resort is the bomb. Great sandwiches, snacks, drinks, gelato, etc. We shopped here a lot and the Maui prices were reasonable. It was one of the best things about The Fairmont Kea Lani. The staff knew it was our honeymoon and we were given a coupon for a free bottle of wine and desert. The catch was that we would have to each order entres at their KO restaurant. Although we didn't really care I know this is a sore spot with a lot of other honeymooners. It is kind of cheap of management for such a special occasion.

Other small reasons why I feel this is not a "perfect" resort included the poor Wi-Fi signal in our suite and the lack of a hot tub in the adult area of the resort. On this note there are two hot tubs on property. Both are located in the center area of the resort where kids have full access to each of them. They shut off the jets at 10 pm. During our visit one was down for maintainence so that left one very small hot tub that always had a score of children in it no matter what time we went. No big deal but not very romantic.

If you are looking to stay in Maui, I would definitely recommend the Wailea area. We travelled all over the island and I think this is the nicest area to stay in. It's quiet, romantic, well manicured and "real Maui" is just a short car ride away in Kihei. The Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, and the Fairmont Kea Lani area all in Wailea but after extensively reviewing all 3 properties on paper and in person, and comparing the nightly rates The Fairmont Kea Lani is easily the best value for the money. A beautiful resort that will satisfy all except the crazy and impossible to please guests that wouldn't be happy no matter where they stayed anyhow. I see no reason to double your vacation expenses by staying at the Four Seasons but hey it's your money in the end. Have a great time in Maui!

Last year we stayed at the Ritz in Kapalua and had a great time. This year we decided to try Wailea and chose the Fairmont based on family friendly reviews and my work experiences at other fairmont properties. Unfortunately after a long flight with the family I walked into a run down room with tattered carpet and really tacky furniture. I have alerted the hotel staff to my concerns. We will see if they follow through in the morning.

My husband and I just spent 9 days at Fairmont Kea Lani and it was amazing! Where to start? The hotel staff is by far the best I've ever experienced. They are courteous and friendly and always very helpful. We had a small issue when we checked in with ants in our room and the hotel manager was so gracious and quick to give us an upgraded room within minutes! And they sent champagne and strawberries for our trouble! Saw no bugs whatsoever the rest of the trip. I mean really none not even Mosquitos!

Best kept secret was they will drive you for free anywhere on wailea strip. And pick u up! So the shops, other hotels etc. it was really great to have especially if we wanted to drunk but didn't want to pay taxi fares.

Grounds are gorgeous and well kept. Rooms are all suites ( or you can rent a villa looked pretty swanky just a bit out of our price range) so you get a kitchenette, ( keurig coffee makers in room wine glasses champagne glasses), a huge bathroom with separate shower and bath tub two sinks, a living room area with a couch tv and desk and then a separate room with bed and tv. Both bedroom and living room have sliding door entrances onto the lanai. The lanai is quite spacious includes table and chairs and a lounge chair.

Pools there is an adult pool, a lower pool and an upper pool. Upper pool was our favorite. Swim up pool bar and water slide and didn't seem as crowded. Another great feature of hotel was they came around offering ice cold towels and pineapples. Loved that they didn't nickel and dime you. Towels are plentiful. Chairs are easy to find. They even have cold water and sunscreen available for free by the pools.

Beach was lovely. Good snorkeling can even see turtles! Pretty calm most of our stay. Not like beaches on north side with rough surf. Easy walk through grounds to get to and villas are practically on the beach.

Restaurants pretty much loved them all. Ko had awesome fried rice. We went during wailea restaurant week very awesome as the restaurants had price fix menus that were all excellent. The breakfast buffet place was good but the birds were pretty annoying. Probably only bad thing I can say is the birds they were worst by swim up pool bar and this restaurant. They dove right for your food. And I was always worried about getting pooped on ( luckily no one did that I saw) We did the cafe almost every morning it was great. Also got a packed lunch for our trip to Hana lots of great food well worth it.

Ok I know this is a bit long but so much to comment on! Hope you choose this resort really was awesome. We would definitely go again!

This was our first trip to Maui. We enjoyed every minute at the Fairmont Kea Lani. The staff went every extra mile to make us feel welcomed. Everyone made sure we had an enjoyable time.
The facility and grounds are beautiful. There are many outdoor niches and gardens where you can relax for a while in a beautiful setting.
Having three pools is a plus. Having one of them as the adult pool makes it easy to pick the activity level you want.
The room was large and elegant. We ate on our lanai often because the view was spectacular.
The beach is convenient and a good swimming beach. There is a paved walkway that parallels the beach for over a mile. It is flanked by a Hawaiian coastal garden. Very pleasant to walk in the morning or evening.
But the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff makes this a great place to stay. Everyone made this a special week for us.

Tip: Join the Fairmont President's Club before or at the start of your stay. It is free and has some advantages such as free WiFi in the rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Oriental bamboo garden also overlook the roosting area of many, many birds...
