“Perfect stay- Hoku Lani dinner highlight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Our family (two adults and two children ages 17 & 13) stayed here for a week. This is my kind of 5-star hotel- meaning it has terrific service and ambience without some of the unnecessary "amenities" of a huge, flashy hotel. It's laid back, calm and refined. I am a very picky customer, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Kea Lani.

I found the architecture of the hotel interesting and attractive. The massive entrance lobby is truly impressive, with a view through it out to the sea. We had a deluxe oceanview room on the 5th floor- right next to the laundry/ice room and maid's closet. I was prepared to start complaining because noise really bothers me- but I didn't hear ANY of that the entire trip. The view was breathtaking. There was a little kitchen/bar area with a refrigerator, bar sink and Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom was probably the largest & loveliest I've seen in a hotel, better even than the Breakers in Palm Beach.

The service at the hotel was excellent. We did a lot of diving, and it was convenient to pick up towels at the front desk and leave them when we returned. They even offered us an ice chest (warning- it's softsided so it does leak at the seams). A card was left daily at turndown with the forecast for the following day, and after a day or two the maid noted we always drank all our coffee every day and started doubling up on it. Room service was spectacular- they don't want trays left in the hallways so they will clear the table for you as soon as you call. The hotel and all of Maui, actually, seemed uncrowded while we were there. As an added bonus, they were painting the hotel (why, I don't know, it looked pristine to me) and because of that nearly unnoticeable inconvenience, all the beach items were available to use for free. Yet there was still no problem getting a lounge or umbrella (unless the wind was up, which was one day). We never used the pool.

We experienced the Hoku Lani Dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and even though it was last minute-ish, it went off without a hitch. Ms. Cathy Cox was the coordinator and our requests were met professionally, the menu selections were outstanding and the view (it goes without saying) was unbelievable. While pricey at $800 with tax & gratuity, it's a bit of a fairy-tale experience and I'd definitely do it again. However, the weather was touch-and-go that whole day and I must say, had it not been out on the terrace by the sea I'd have been extremely disappointed- there are no bad-weather refunds. We received our own personalized commemorative menus which was a cute touch. Fortunately, my daughter is a talented shutterbug- however, they can provide a photographer for you.

I have only three complaints about the Kea Lani (and I really had to think hard to find any at all). First, what's up with no candy at the turn down?! And second, I strongly believe they need drink service on the beach. Surely a waiter down there would pay for himself many times over. Finally, I'm sure this hotel has spoiled my kids beyond all redemption!

The service from the check-in to the check-out was perfect. The hotel staff is very friendly, helpful and the suites are perfect clean and well equiped. We were in the 6th floor and had one of the closest suites to the beach. The view during our breakfast on the balcony or in the evening was amazing. The service at the pool was also perfect, the pools and the grounds are gorgeous.
We saw wonderful sunsets and the food at the Ko was amazing. Very delicious, big portions and friendly staff. Like other people wrote: Everything is expansive at the Fairmont but we bought some things for our breakfast at the grocery store 15min away (there is a fridgerator and a coffee maker in the room) and got every morning fresh rolls and croissont from the hotel deli. Then we had a wonderful breakfast on our spacious balcony. The food at the Ko in the evening wasn't too expensive and their kids menue are very delicious and cheap. We would come back anytime for a relaxing beach vacation.

Great resort, beautiful rooms, and great service. I had one complaint about some noise coming from outside, and the hotel manager immediately offered a cabana as well as sent a chilled bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio to the room.

Room Tip: We had the ocean view, for which you have to pay extra, but it was worth it, as we spent few evening...

The Fairmont Kea Lani is beautiful inside and out! From the grounds to the staff, you are well taken care of. It was wonderful to be able to choose a "spot" to go to in the resort depending on our mood. The adult pool is wonderful and quiet, the beach is clean and spacious (beautiful gathering spot for the sunsets) and then you can walk (or run) along the 1.5 mile ocean front path. Their main restaurant, Ko, is amazing. Huge portions that lasted us until lunch the next day. We rented a car and drove to more secluded beaches and ate all meals (except Ko) in town. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere. Every balcony is spacious and we loved eating breakfast and lunch right there. Buy meals at the deli and carry them to a table on the grounds to eat under the stars. It is a wonderful way to dine at this resort.

Room Tip: Rooms closest to the ocean are villas. But the suites are also great.

Very disappointed with this hotel - especially as we based our booking on other reviews. Don’t believe it – this place isn't in the same league as The Grand Wailea and The Four Seasons (both of which are steps away and we have been to before). At time of booking, the Grand Wailea was in the same price bracket and it is far superior.

The Fairmont has definitely seen better days and service left a lot to be desired. We were early checking in, but they told us that the hotel was "empty" and they would try to expedite cleaning our room. 3 hours later, and we were still waiting - at the downright grotty pool bar.

Everything on Maui is expensive, but the Fairmont just doesn’t have the quality to back it up $29 for a pretty gross fish wrap and no view? No thanks - skip it and get the gigantic lobster roll and fries at the Four Seasons for the same price. Cocktails are cheaper, better presented and stronger there too! This was a pretty recurring theme, over the course of the week, we walked to the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons several times to eat at their restaurants; the prices are the same, but the quality is much, much higher.

They were repainting the hotel by the adult's pool while we were there. It didn't really bother us too much as we were off hiking and exploring the islands most of the time, but if you are a sunbather, be sure to check before you book on any construction plans as it was very noisy.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room away from the construction.

We’re so sorry to hear that you left feeling disappointed. We strive to create a memorable vacation for our guests and feel awful that you were underwhelmed. Especially when it comes to the service you received…it sounds like we fell short for you. We’re proud that over 85% of the food we serve on property is from local purveyors, so while it is as fresh as it gets, we’re sorry to hear you didn’t care for the preparation/ options. The building painting will be moved to the mountain side of the hotel shortly and will be completed in the fall. Mahalo for your candid feedback and we hope you will give us another opportunity in the future.

From the moment you drive up your life (truly) changes. The valet staff, superb; the front desk team, incredible; the restaurants and poolside teams, WOW; housekeeping, perfection. Staying at Fairmont Kea Lani Maui is really a life changing experience, even the kids all seem calm and well behaved, it must be that Ohana spirit! We toured through other hotels while here for a week and yes the Four Seasons is impeccable too, it's also twice the price AND it only has one much smaller pool, Fairmont Kea Lani has 3 gargantuan pools, and they don't make you wear tacky plastic wristbands like other Wailea resorts do. This place oozes class. There is a great deli with all sorts of foods, each 1 bedroom suite (the hotel is ALL suites) has microwave and small refrigerator, huge ocean view decks with table / chair seating and lounge chairs. The beaches in Wailea area are so incredible for swimming with sandy bottoms that go way out into the ocean, and Polo Beach in front of Kea Lani is the best hotel beach in Wailea hands down. Beaches up in Kanaapali all have rocky reefs within 4-6 feet of the shore. You seriously must stay here, now that the entire hotel has gone through a top to bottom refurbishment, it's never looked better. We love you Kea Lani and can't wait to come back!

We were here for our honeymoon. It is really just paradise. As with all fairmonts the service is exceptional. The beach is beautiful. I would rent a car so you can see the rest of the island. Or you can just stay here as the hotel has everything.
