The strengths of the Four Seasons Wailea are a matter of record: amazing setting, top notch service and luxurious creature comforts. It is a Four Seasons after all. But, when my wife and I took our 15 month old son to the Four Seasons Wailea over Thanksgiving, we found that our already-high expectations were more than exceeded. We were truly blown away by the thoughtfulness, attention to detail and care provided by the hotel staff. Obviously, traveling with children can be stressful, but the Four Seasons thinks of and does almost everything to ease the burden on parents.
During our stay, we were graciously upgraded to a standard oceanfront suite because to celebrate my wife's birthday. The room was enormous, luxurious and, best of all, thoughtfully appointed by the housekeeping staff in anticipation of my son's arrival. The housekeeping staff set up a spacious crib in the suite, spelled out my son's name in miniature sponges by the side of the master bathtub, installed a smell-proof diaper disposal bin in the bathroom and provided not only a plethora of baby toiletries but also packets of Woolite and dishwasher liquid for the duration of our stay.
The hotel's extraordinary efforts did not end there. Toys were provided to my son at every turn -- upon checkin, in the room, in the complimentary dedicated children's club, and, most importantly, by the pool and the beach. And, most amazingly of all, the hotel provides little swimmer diapers, sunscreen, lotion and pack and play cribs in its poolside cabanas. By virtue of these efforts, the Four Seasons Wailea ranks as the single most thoughtful hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. It certainly makes other hotels pale in comparison (as we have unfortunately found since our stay -- thanks a lot, Four Seasons Wailea, you have ruined us for all future vacations).
Finally, the numerous, small kindnesses we received throughout our stay really stuck out in our minds. One morning, as I struggled to put my screaming son in his carseat in the valet area, a guest service manager on his own volition opened the opposite door to entertain and distract my son with funny faces. Staff members were always on hand with a smile, a warm or silly greeting for my son or unprompted offers to take photos of the three of us whenever one of us had a camera in our hand.
The service was so good that it was surreal (having worked in the hotel business in a prior life, I am absolutely stunned at how genuinely kind and exquisitely well-trained the folks at the Four Seasons Wailea are.) My wife and I consider ourselves genuinely tough critics with high expectations and can not say enough warm and complimentary things about our recent visit. Frankly, it's somewhat surprising that the hotel didn't have to hire extra security to pry us out of our room on the final day.
Definitely worth the splurge to upgrade to a premium oceanfront room. It's nice to escape to th...
