“Paradise away from home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2011

What can I say but the Four Seasons Maui is the top of the line in resorts and my favorite hotel in the world-so far. I've stayed here twice without our kids. This hotel has fabulous food/drinks, good size rooms/amenities, beautiful grounds, pools, spa and fitness center and kids activities. I really enjoyed the yoga on the beach and the 5:30 am complimentary coffee/pastries in the lobby. The brunch was awesome in the restaurant. The drinks by the pool or at Ferraro's bar were so yummy esp. the lava flow and mai tais. This is the best hotel on Maui b/c it's small, quaint, and there is a great attention to detail along with top notch service. We've always stayed in the Mountain View room b/c we're not in the room much and it saves some $$. You have a great ocean view everywhere else in the hotel so no biggie to overlook the mountain when in you're room. The tennis courts are great and are supplied with complimentary rackets, ball rack and water. Can't wait to go back again. Though there are many kids that stay here, especially in the summer, you hardly notice them because they're very sophisticated and well travelled/behaved. The beach is nice-basically a bay with tiny waves. There is a great mall across from the hotel with upscale stores and restaurants like Tommy Bahama. Celebrated my husband's 40th bday at Mama's and had the best meal of our life. Great golf at the hotel too.

We stayed in this hotel for our honeymoon, spending 4 delightful days here.
This hotel has all you need to feel absolutely happy.
Located on the best beach of Maui, tastefully arranged, offering several restaurants and bars alternatives, this hotel has all you may need to enjoy your stay.
The breakfast buffet is the best we had in Hawaii, the service is absolutly faultless.
The rooms are incredibly quiet and comfortable (we had a garden view double room).
This hotel is approximately 20% more expensive than the others, but in our opinion it is worth the money.

Much has been said about how fantastic this hotel is. However, I thought it might be helpful to provide families traveling with children with a review that is specifically geared towards the family experience. We went to the Four Seasons Maui in August for 10 nights with our two children aged 4 and 6. Overall, I would summarize the family experience as consistent with everything else that has been said about this place. The hotel and its staff think of everything and the family experience at the Fours Seasons Maui was fantastic.

Here are some of the highlights:

Room: We spent the first 5 nights in a garden view room and the second 5 nights in a garden view executive suite. Both rooms were great but the suite provided added privacy since the kids slept together on a sofa-bed in the room adjoining the bedroom. The sofa bed was more comfortable than a typical sofa bed and the children slept very well. As has been stated in several other reviews, the room has several surprises for the kids upon check-in (a stuffed animal, their names spelled out in sponge letters in the bathroom and child-sized four seasons robes to use).

Kids for All Seasons: This was, for us, the real wild-card. We had no idea whether or not the kids would take to the KFAS programming. As it turns out, they LOVED it. We sent them to KFAS for 6 of the 10 days we were there and they did not want to leave when we picked them up. The programming is varied and well thought out and the staff was fantastic. I could not have been happier (nor could the kids). On their first day, each child is given a cubby in which to keep their arts and crafts. There is an outdoor activity, swimming, indoor play time and movies daily. It is a perfect combination of activities and rest and my children really enjoyed meeting the other kids. My youngest (the 4 year old) had to be accompanied by a caretaker (arranged through the hotel) but the whole thing worked seamlessly and my little guy enjoyed the program as much as my older child.

On one evening every week, there was a special activity organized for the kids (at an additional cost). When we were there, our kids got a tour of the 4S kitchen, got to make their own pizzas and cupcakes and, after dinner, watched a movie. It provided a great opportunity for my wife and I to have a nice dinner together without any guilt. For their part, the kids had a blast. The evening activity was a little on the pricey side, but it was well worth it.

Nanny: My youngest child had a nanny when he attended KFAS because the program requires supervision for kids under the age of 5 (it has something to do with licensing). We arranged through the concierge to have a nanny provided and requested that he have the same nanny for the entire stay. This was set up in advance and it worked out nicely. The nanny was great, came with activities, and really developed a good rapport with our child. We also had her babysit one night and she kept both of our kids occupied and happy. The cost was $20 per hour.

Meals: The kids at for free at Ferraros and Duo (provided that parents are also ordering meals). For some reason, the kids don't eat free if you order food at the pool (even though it comes off the same menu as the childrens' menu used in the other restaurants).

Overall: The pools, the beach, the facilities... they are all perfectly suited for children. There were many kids at the end of August and the hotel was bustling. However, the kids at the resort were generally well-behaved. While I was a little reluctant to take young kids at first, based on this past experience, I would definitely bring them next time. At this hotel, you really can't go wrong.

I have stayed at this hotel 9 times totaling over 120 days. It is perfect in just about every way. My only caution is if you like tranquility, definitely inquire if the Mary K group is in town before booking. If you are a "Four Seasons lover" as my wife and I are, then having this group around will definitely be a nuisance. They are loud. Pool, beach, dinner you name it you hear them. Again, love, love, love this hotel, but this last trip they were here for a week and bottom line is they do not fit in. Just make sure to inquire before booking and you should have a great trip!

Best 40th birthday ever! We split our time between this property and the Grand Wailea next door. Perfect, exquisite, memorable, unforgettable.....quite simply the best time of my life. It was worth every penny for the absolute best of everything. If you are trying to decide whether to go.....GO!!!

One thing I love about the Four Seasons are the rooms and the beautiful, well maintained property and this one didn't disappoint. Very spacious rooms, especially the bathrooms. The ocean view was a disappointment though as most ocean view rooms are diagonal to the ocean due to the layout of the hotel, and rooms are far from the ocean so you don't get that on the ocean feel. Service on the beach was top-notch and even though we visited on a very crowded weekend, there were still plenty of staff to accomodate our needs. There were no affordable restaurant choices for dinner though, although plenty in walking distance.

Our family has stayed at the FS Maui on and off for the past 15 years. We typically visit during Spring Break in April but have also visited during Christmas. They hotel can be very crowded during those times but we have never had trouble getting a reservation for dinner at any of the three restaurants on property. Speaking of restaurants, they are all absolutely fantastic. Ferraros at Sunset is a real treat and they have music nightly which provides a very nice ambiance. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The Garden View rooms have been our favorite on the third floor as they have sliding doors that lead to a deck and a lawn area. Everyone from the valet, front desk, restaurants servers, pool attendants and spa employees provides TOP client service and all of them somehow remember my family's names. They have watched my kids grow up and remember us year after year. The outrigger program is amazing and each time we have seen turtles. Even though you do have to get up early at times to find a beachfront chair, it is well worth it. We have been spoiled by the FS Maui and honestly would't stay anywhere else in Maui. This hotel is bar none!!! (the part in this review where they ask you when you last visited would not let me choose August 2010 which was when we were last there so I had to put Oct 2010 but we went in August which I must say was a wonderful time to go since we typically go during spring break and it is much more crowded during the "breaks."

Room Tip: Garden view rooms on third floor are fantastic!
