“Elua Village, Wailea #2107 Wonderful, remodeled condo, ocean view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

We rented this condo thru Alli'i Resorts and were so please with the unit. It was the bottom unit but was elevated because the garage was beneath so there are stairs. It has a great view of the ocean albeit, a farther back one. The condo has been not just updated but remodeled, i.e. granite throughout, stainless steel kitchen with every amennity including but not limited to a spice rack! It even had a meat thermo to check our BBQ on the back patio. 60" flat screen in LR and 40" ones in the bedrooms. The master bed was a top of the line foam mattress with white goose down pillows. There was a lighted make up mirror and scales in the bathroom. There was even an ice chest along with 4 beach chairs available to us. About a 5 min. walk to beach.
Enough can't be said about the owners. They thought of everything a vacation traveler could need and they obviously took pride in providing a perfect place to spend our 10 days in Maui.
My only caution is the condo backs up to Wailea-Alanui Dr., a 4 lane road. Although not terrible, you do notice it. The resort seems to be in the process of erecting a soundproofing wall along the back. I am sure it can only be benefical to reducing the noise in the future. I would, without hesitation, stay there again.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

Our family of 4 rented Wailea Elua 1502 from Destination Resorts Hawaii for 10 days in March 2012. This unit is about 1/2 way between the beach and the road, and as a result is a short 2 minute flat walk to the beach, and is right next to the 'small pool' and hot tub. Nice ocean view from the Lanai, but units in the front of the Elua property (around a block away) block a direct view of the beach. Strategically placed plants on the Lanai make it very private from adjacent Lanais, but like all the units in Wailea Elua, sound travels easily to and from the other nearby units, especially when windows were open. Luckily our neighbours were mostly quiet (I hope they say the same about us!) Amazing landscaping. Maids did a great job at cleaning the place and staying out of our way.

The unit was similar to the photos on the Destination Resorts and VRBO web sites, but we were disappointed in its poor state of repair. Our expectations were high due to the high price of the unit ($595.00 per night with AAA discount) and since it was being rented by a professional property management firm.

The unit came with access to a locker with lots of great beach stuff (chairs, umbrellas beach mats) as well as golf clubs !

Problems included:

Master Bedroom desk with no chair
Master Bedroom, TV in a wardrobe, but wardrobe doors prevented viewing TV from the left hand side of the bed
Master Bedroom, knob missing from closet door
Master Bedroom, part of wodden slat window system broken, some slats could not be opened
Master Bathroom, paint chipping off of vanity handles
Master Bathroom, tub faucet missing trim
Master Bathroom, hair drier broken (GFCI plug made a buzzing sound, and drier didn't work)
Master Bedroom, finish on side table tops worn.
Kitchen, paint chipping off of handles
Kitchen, Microwave broken (turntable didn't turn, make loud buzzing noise)
Kitchen, paint chipping off of ceramic sink (not sure who would paint a sink!)
High def TV's, but no high def boxes or service
Both tables on Lanai had cracked class tops

In general the unit is in need of major renovation of the bathrooms and the kitchen, plus a lot of small things fixed. But the place is not a complete disaster. The main living area furniture was in good shape, and the carpet was high quality and looked recently replaced.

We did bring a couple of issues to Destination Resorts attention during our stay - a shower head hose failed, which they replaced immediately - and we appreciated the fast service, and the problem with the microwave (which the service guy said they would look into replacing, but it wasn't replaced during our stay).

We would stay in Elua Village again, but not in this unit. We have learned that a professional property management firm like Destination Resorts does not guarantee value. Just to reiterate, the unit was not completely unacceptable (we continued to stay there after all, and only reported a few minor things to the property management firm), but we just found it to be a poor value for the price. If the kitchen and baths were in better shape, then it would have been a different story.

One other item of interest to anyone renting a unit in Wailea Elua that has northern exposure (as this one did) before spring of 2013- there is a major construction project going on the adjacent property - (Used to be a Renaisance hotel, sign says will be completed as an Andaz resort in spring 2013). There was loud jackhammering noises Monday through Friday 8 till 5. I didn't find the noise that bad, but my wife did not enjoy. Our unit was a few hundred yards from the construction. North facing units or units on the north side of Wailea Elua might find the noise worse.

We loved Wailea and the beach walk along the shoreline, and hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Units in the back of the propery would be quite a hike to the beach, and might have some road noise.

Aloha Younger64,

We appreciate your kind comments regarding our staff and the things you enjoyed about your visit, but I apologize for those items where we did not meet expectations and for not replacing the microwave or addressing certain issues that could have easily been fixed. Each of our condos are individually owned and we will be proposing improvements to the owner of 1502 so that future guests will not be similarly disappointed.

The property adjacent to us is undergoing renovation and it appears that the noise you experienced during your visit has considerably calmed down. Although it is not a project located on our resort, we have notified all incoming guests so that they will not be surprised.

Mahalo for your comments because it does help us to continue to improve the facilities and service that we offer.

Sincerely,
Matt Smith

Elua Village has nice condos, beautiful landscaping, nice pools and clubhouse amenities and right on Elua Beach. Elua beach is great for relaxing with friends, family and snorkeling. Beautiful sunsets are the norm. Able to be on the beach and run back up to the condo to get the kids lunch, fill-up the cooler, etc. Excellent location can walk to nearby hotels for shows and dinner or walk to shops of Wailea for shopping, dinner, etc. Incredible golf nearby. The Villages are very quiet and they are not kidding about all noise ending at 11, so not a good place if you are looking for nightlife. We went with family, kids and friends and had an amazing experience!

Wailea is our favorite district on Maui. The sunsets are incredible! We've been able to see more "green flashes" here, than anywhere else in the world.

And, other than the multimillion dollar beachfront homes on the turn
To Kihei, there are no other places like Elua Village to get up close and personal with the ocean, the sky, the surrounding islands, and in the winter months, with the humpback whales. Our unit this year is 1305. We have stayed in up to ten other units there over the years, but 1305 is our favorite. The views of Kaoolawe, Molokini, Lana'i, Haleakala, and the West Maui Mountains from the spacious well equiped patio and lanai are awesome enough! But add freshly updated tropical decor, well stocked kitchen, and three full baths and bedrooms and you have a little slice of Heaven in paradise.

The rental agents, Ali'i Resorts did a fabulous job of taking care of us. Our towels were traded out daily. Linens are changed twice a week and the cleaning and maintenance people were always there for anything we needed. This stay was a 10 out of 10!!!

I stayed at the Wailea Elua Village while visiting Maui with family. There's so much glitz and glamour in the big resorts. Wailea Elua doesn't have that, but it's even better. It's a much quieter, more peaceful Maui experience.

The beach was wonderful--never overcrowded (which I cannot say about the beaches at the big resorts) with excellent snorkeling right off the beach. On top of that, there are some wonderful tide pools that are definitely worth exploring during low tide. I went down there with my two young cousins (7 and 9 years old) and we all had a blast looking at fish and sea urchins and sea cucumbers and spider crabs. Totally great. Like the beach, the pool was never crowded, had lots of seating, and heated to a perfect temperature.

The rooms themselves were perfect. It was great to have access to a kitchen and everything was clean and well-maintained. Each condo had a BBQ grill--which was a wonderful amenity when cooking for a group of 13. The view from the condos varied, but ours had a fabulous view of the ocean. We could even see humpback whales swimming off-shore--what an amazing experience!

On top of the condos themselves, they are located in a great place: Right on the Wailea beach walk, so you can walk down and see the other resorts for dining and shopping. It's a leisurely 10-minute walk to the shops at Wailea, which have some good restaurants, coffee shops, and plenty of great shopping. Overall, I was really impressed with these condos and would definitely opt to stay in them over one of the big resorts any day.

We rented 3 condos in Elua for a family get-together. While renting from VRBO (vacation rental by owner) we were 'handed off' to Destination Resorts as the management unit. Each condo was unique, and very nice. Each was just as advertised. The overall Elua complex is beautifully landscaped, and all of our condo's had beautiful beach views. Each Condo was well maintained, and when we did have to interact with DRH several times (golf T-times, refill propane in a grill, tickets for whale watching) they were always very nice, and responsive. This was our 7 family trip to Wailea, and our first in Elua. We will be back, as this was by far the 'best overall'

The views from the units in this group of condos is great. They sit on one of the best beaches in Maui. This was our second stay and won't be our last.
