“Great alternative to a hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

Booked #19 through VRBO (#14408) a studio condo with a kitchenette and a stackable washer and dryer. For travelers who want to enjoy the beauty of South Maui without the astronomical hotel rates, this complex was an affordable alternative. You can still stroll through the Shops of Wailea and enjoy the golden beaches. The complex includes two pools with hot tubs and grills. It is set back away from the main road, so there is no traffic noise. Preparing a meal or two in the kitchenette saves on restaurant spending. The owner provides dishes, small appliances, towels/linens, and beach gear. There were even boogie boards and ice chests. Highly recommend Grand Champions!

#169 is a 3 bedroom unit and was advertised as being recently renovated or updated, 2-3 years ago. On a previous trip we rented an older 1-bedroom unit that was very well maintained but on this trip we needed 3 bedrooms. When we arrived after a long journey to Maui, the key was not available and a call had to be made for someone to let us in. In the first day or two we found ourselves frequently having to clean or repair something in this unit. Some examples are moldy smelling bathrooms, faulty door latches, faulty light fixtures, cupboard door falling off, sliding lanai door not working and many light bulbs burned out. The owner responded to our complaints by sending a cleaner who did a thorough cleaning and a handyman who capably addressed most of our concerns. However, an important kitchen light fixture was left disassembled in the corner for the duration of our stay. No one returned to re-install it. Later several other maintenance issues arose at different times. I did not report these to the owner but repaired them myself or did without to avoid rescheduling my day’s activities and waiting for someone to come. It is the responsibility of the owner to routinely check and maintain the unit.

The key to this complex is that it provides great value for staying in Wailea. Clearly they are not a hotel on the beach and thus do not have bars/restaurants on site, but, if you're not fussed about a 5-10 min walk to the beach, shops and restaurants then this is a great place. A car is needed in Maui anyway so that only helps with getting to beaches in Makena or Kihei or elsewhere if you're worried about that. The 2 pools are nice and the grills are good for cooking your own stuff. The units are clean and either have nice views or are tucked away in privacy. The walls are a touch thin however. Beaches are great and weather is hot but maybe a touch windy in the afternoon which makes the pool a good retreat.

This was our 3rd trip to Maui. Previously we have stayed in a hotel and once in a condo. The condo was especially nice because we didn't have to eat out for every meal but this time we thought we would try a vacation rental. This place is beautiful. It sits right on the golf course and is only about 1/2 mile from the ocean with great views depending upon which unit you are renting. Our condo was fabulous. The walk-in shower off the master bathroom was almost as large as our whole bathroom at home. The unit was equipped with everything you could possibly need, whether is was fine dining, or needing a cooler and boogie board for the water. Masks and snorkles were there also. There were two pools, one for kids and famiies, the other adults only. I did not go to the family pool but the adult pool had two very large grills which we put to use. The pool was large and the hot tub came in handy as it was cool in the evenings in March. This place exceeded my expectations. It is a drive to Lahaina and Kaanapali but is close to Kehei, the airport, the road to Hana, Haleakala volcano, and many other attractions. To cost to stay here was more affordable than most 2 bedroom condos.

This was our families' first trip to Maui. I spent numerous hours looking for a place to stay, investigating all areas of Maui and selecting Grand Champions in South Maui. The Grand Champions resort is vast and very close to golf, beach and easy access to highways to other parts of Maui. All condos in the Grand Champions are not equal. Condo 42 is huge, very clean, it has a room for everyone with 3 flat screens, 2 full bathrooms and everything you would ever need. This condo has undertaken recent renovations creating a very modern condo in every sense from the kitchen down to the teak furniture on the Lanai. The process for booking was seamless, you can tell the familiy that owns this condo along with the many returning guests take great pride in this property. The view is amazing looking at the ocean in the distance and the pool down below from the Lanai. The grounds are immaculate! Security at night ensures all the people in the complex should be there and the gardens and pool are looked after each and everyday. I could go on forever about Maui. You need to experience it and stay here, you can't go wrong! Please enjoy the pictures

Stayed in Unit 70 with a golf course view from the 2nd floor veranda. Very well appointed and equipped. Short walk or drive to Wailea Beach and the walking path.

#173 was a great condo. Very updated. Flatscreen tv's in living room, both bedrooms. Master bedroom was great, walkin shower with dual showerheads, big walkin closet, double sinks. All counters kitchen/bath marble. all nice ceramic tile floors except carpet in bedrooms. Kitchen was unbelievably stocked with Crate & Barrel china, glasses. Nice silverware. Virtually every kitchen gadget you would have at home from BBQ tongs, blender, salad spinner, wine decanter, spatula's, cheese grater, etc. Nice quality pans (Cephalon), OXO kitchen gadgets. Living Dining area comfortable with Ipod base, computer cables for our laptops. Plenty of nice cosy blankets, pillows. Stayed 8 days, maids only came twice but we never ran out of towels because cabinets had extra. Walk to beach is for people used to walking daily (.5 mile). Convenient location to Shops @Wailea. I LOVE Wailea, 2nd year in a row, what a great area, worth the extra money compared to Kihei. No rain for quite some time in Wailea which is common.Only improvements would be more room in 2nd bedroom and lanai was tight squeese for family of 5 with "kids" being 21,22, and 24. Would request this spot again. Great job condo owner! Thanks for your attention to detail.
