“Nice place away from the beach, but.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2010

Stayed for 3 days in Jan and our stay was OK, for us we really missed being on the beach which this hotel is 5 min shuttle away.

Away from the beach
resort fee $15 a day ( I hate resort fees)
Cold pool for kids
Can use restaurantes at GRAND Wailea but not POOL, Signing privileges at Grand Wailea (spa, shops, restaurants, cabana rentals), Cabana rentals were quoted at $500 a day , more than a room at the Grand Wailea.
Relatively expensive compared to last minute deals at beach from hotels for a standard room
Morning "snack" (not a breakfast , had no fruit.... )
3 day cancelation policy
Had friends say the restaurante was not very good, but we never tried it.
E-mailed hotel 1 week before arrival to recommend a luau in Wailea but never received a response.
We had a view suite which was nice but the small efficiency kitchen had no pans or pots and the fridge was only large enough to hold sodas and small items such.
Beach club open till 3pm , should be till 5pm

Quick check-in
Hotel was quiet , felt relatively empty, which was nice
Great Views
Location in Wailea
Friendly Staff
Good lite snack in the morning, not really breakfast, but coffee muffins , bagels, one type of juice. was great for our kids however no fruit.
Shuttle service was to any of the close hotels and the Beach Club.
Valet staff was great and efficient
large room nicely appointed good for families
Pool had no other visitors , it was like our private pool

Over all we liked the room and view but for $420 a night (taxes and fees included) it was expensive. For a family the larger room was nice but for a couple you might want to call the beach located hotels and see what their 'special' rates are.

Hawaii is way off on tourism so deals are always available

We stayed at the Hotel Wailea for 2 nights and we were upgraded to a luxury Suite, the suite was very nicely furnished and the size of the suite was massive, which would be ideal for families. The hotel sits on the hill behind the main area of Wailea - about a 5 minute drive down to the beach. The hotel has a resort fee of approx $20.00 per day. Most resorts will only give you free phone calls and a newspaper for this, however the Hotel Wailea gives you internet access, continental breakfast and a free shuttle to and from the beach or shops in Wailea and then back to the hotel, which was so handy and all of the guys that drove us down and back a million times were so friendly and were always up for a chat!

Wailea itself is pretty expensive so be prepared to pay more than you would in Waikiki or in Lahaina. Everyone raved about the beach here being so nice although i thought it was over crowded but it was still not bad.

Overall Hotel Wailea would be my choie if returning to Wailea as it's a very spread out resort with only 4 rooms in each block, we almost felt that we were one of only a few guests at the hotel, however when we ask if the hotel was empty they told us it was running at about 65% capacity!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Wailea for 2 weeks prior to Christmas. We were very pleased with all the staff at the hotel, very attentive, and always remembered our names. We booked an ocean view-deluxe room and were at first very pleased with the room. After being there the first day we noticed the carpets were very soiled and the counter tops needed to be replaced. Overall, the room was very nice and quiet. The rooms come with a "kitchen" but really the come with a small (hotel sized) refregerator and a cook top, but nothing to cook with or put food on. You have to ask and pay extra for cookware (which is old and needs to be replaced.) We did ask for a microwave after the first week and were not charged extra for that, but it was not in the room to begin wth.
The beds are very comfortable with several choices of pillows. The shower and bath are very nice and spacious also. You can see the Japanese influence in the bath area with the deep spa tub and the bidet toilets.
"Breakfast" consists of bagels, scones and coffee and tea. If you want something more, you will have to travel to a restaurant or shop at the local Safeway (and check out the kitchen supplies) from the front desk.
The shuttle to the beach was a nice feature, but they only have one cart and it needed recharging after a few trips, so they then used a very old and worn van that was held together with duct tape....another cart would be very helpful here.
The spa was very nice, but we really didn't use it much. They have a large spa with a small waterfall, a steam room and a nice dressing room with all the needed necessaties.
Overall, I would stay here again and hope that the management would have updated the carpets and included some of the needed accessories in the room without an extra fee.
We did eat at the restaurant "Capische?" where we were given a 20% discount from the hotel. Well, the food was fine, but not exceptional, and the service had much to be desired...we were left sitting for long periods of time and one of our salads didn't come at all until we asked about it. Also, we are charged an 18% gratuitity on the bill, so 20% really isn't a discount at all. We probably wouldn't have given them that large a tip on poor service.
You are charged a "Resort fee" for using the fitness center and internet....well, the fitness center was closed for renovations so, it was $25 to use the internet and the spa PER DAY!

We stayed at Hotel Wailea Christmas 2009 for 8 nights. We found this hotel on this site and would like to thank tripadvisor just for its existence. When we first arrived and were looking for the hotel we became concerned since no one we asked knew about this hotel. When we found it we were in a pleasant surprise. Wailea is a beautiful area of Maui. This hotel reflects all the positive sides of Wailea: beauty, peace and perfection. We stayed in a room with an ocean view which was wonderful. We got to see the sunset every evening right from our room.
The hotel is close enough to the beach yet not right on the beach where all the crowds are. The hotel offers shuttle services to the beach at Grand Wailea where you can get a place to sit and towels. As a guest you are allowed to charge to your hotel account for expenses at the Grand Wailea but are not allowed to make use of the pool. If you prefer, as we did, you can drive on your own as parking is available.
If you want crowds, things happening at the hotel non-stop then you should stay at one of the resorts. If you want peace and tranquility with a choice of resort life then this is the place. To sum it up here is a list of pros and cons:
Pros: -Quiet, peaceful yet very family oriented. We have two boys under 10 and did not feel uncomfortable for the noise they make often.
-Helpful and friendly staff that answers to every need.
-Great Italian restaurant at he hotel.
-Ocean view rooms excellent
-Comfortable rooms to accommodate a family of 4 - bedroom, living room with pull out couch and a small kitchenette.
-nice sauna, hot tubs
-nice pool lounge area (we didn't use)
-laundry room available
Cons: - bathroom, toilet are needs a makeover. Paint chipped.
-sports center closed due to renovation. Which was not cool since we were there during high season. To be honest we wouldn't have used it since the outdoors is so beautiful.
We can't think of any other cons.
The only improvement would be to have small beach chairs in the room so that the guests can take them (like umbrellas) to nearby beaches.
We will definitely go back and we will stay at this hotel again.

wonderful place to stay. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. Utilized the shuttle service often even though we had a car.

From the moment we arrived we knew we were going to love this hotel. The beautiful waterfall and koi pond at the entrance tell your mind and body this is a place to relax. And relax we did for 12 wonderful days.

The front desk staff and the shuttle driver who brought us to our room were warm and welcoming.

We loved the room! It was larger than I had expected and we were upgraded to a partial ocean view so we could see the sunset from our balcony. I could even see the ocean while showering in what I would describe as a shower room...fabulous! The bed was a bit soft for my husband's taste, but I slept like a baby. My only warning: the air conditioning can be a bit powerful, start low and work your way up.

We arrived in the dark, so we were just amazed when we woke up to see the lush, beautifully landscaped grounds. And without the crowds of the big beach side resorts, you can actually find a quiet little bench to sit and enjoy them. The newly remodeled pool area with the canopied beds is also an excellent place to relax after a day at the beach or hiking. And unlike the the big resorts, you don't have to pay extra to enjoy them.

When I booked the hotel I was a little nervous about not being right on the water. But this turned out to be a non-issue. We enjoyed the morning walk down to the beach. I would recommend walking down to the Polo beach entrance and then strolling along the path to Wailea beach where the beach chairs are set up. The staff at the beach was great. They always had chairs and towels set up. We never had to ask or wait. And the beach is perfect for swimming and snorkling. I saw at least one turtle everyday. If you are not in the mood to walk back up the hill, the shuttle will come and get you. We would often walk to the Shops at Wailea to get lunch at the Whaler's General Store deli and then have the shuttle pick us up there. The shuttle service is very prompt.

Once you are back from the beach you have a renewed appreciation for how lucky you are to have found Hotel Wailea. Being off the Wailea strip and away from the mega resorts allows you to really experience what Hawai'i is all about...peace, serenity, aloha.

When staying on Maui there are so many options for accommodation it is almost overwhelming. Do you choose a hotel or a condo? Where on the island do you want to stay? We knew we wanted to stay in Wailea and we thought we wanted to stay in a condo so we could have a little more space and kitchen amenities. But as we found out the last time we went to Maui, choosing a condo is hard because even if you like the complex you could get a dog unit. I choose the Hotel Wailea because it looked like it had the space and amenities of a studio condo with the luxuries of a hotel (shuttle service, daily maid service) and the rooms were all the same except for the view. This is why I chose Hotel Wailea, but I would go back for the beauty, serenity and service.

My fiance and I spent two nights in a one room suite here and had an amazing time. The room amenities were fantastic; wireless internet, flat screen tv in the bedroom and living room, fridge, two-burner stove and a bed so comfortable we bought one when we returned home. Cleanliness is not an issue at all. It is an amazing boutique hotel with beautiful views from the room, the pool and throughout the grounds. The service was extremely friendly and helpful and the shuttle service was easy to use.

The pool area is very nice, with chairs, lounges, and canopy beds surrounding it. The only thing missing from the pool, and possibly the hotel, is a bar near the pool, or even in the resort, at which to obtain cocktails while you're poolside. We were informed that the hotel was in the process of adding a bar because they were under new management...I can only hope, for the sake of future guests, that they update that amenity.

We will definitely stay here again and we will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Maui/Hawaii.
