“Beautiful Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Wailea for our honeymoon and had an overall great experience. The property was beautiful and quiet (no kiddies like the big resorts). The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with our room the first night and we quickly got switched rooms the next day, ensuring the next 5 days were extremely relaxing and enjoyable. The perks offered by the hotel were perfect for anti-resort honeymooners like ourselves - a complementary shuttle to the beach, shopping, and restaurants, as well beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas at the Grand Wailea Beach or a bag of towels to take with you if you set out for a beach of your own. Make sure to ask for water with your towels. The breakfast was served on a beautiful terrace overlooking the ocean. Do be prepared to pay for anything more than coffee and banana bread. We ate pricey omelets there a few times but also went to the grocery store and made breakfast in our kitchen some mornings, which was easy with fridge, stove, and cooking pans/utensils all provided in the suite. The housekeeping was spotless and the bellhops friendly and helpful. And we had the best Mai Tai of our trip at the manager's reception our first night!

Room Tip: The renovated rooms are much, much nicer.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Wailea for the second half of our Honeymoon. We experienced a quick check-in process, and our bags were carted down with us to our room without delay. The grounds were lush with beautiful flowers, a nice stream, and waterfalls. The room was also very reasonable at this price point.

We only used the shuttle once, but it was easy to access and very convenient if you don't want to drive after going out in Wailea.

The complimentary breakfast was a joke, but we expected this going in, and the a la carte breakfast menu was excellent. There is also a small kitchen in the room if you don't like paying $18 for an omelette and want to cook for yourself, which we did a couple of times.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel based on its convenient location in proximity to Wailea, particularly Wailea Beach, and the value considering other hotels in this area. Don't expect the Four Seasons and you won't be disappointed.

You pay an extra $25 per day resort fee, but this did include parking and the convenient shuttle. The fee also gets you beach chair access near the Grand Wailea.

Altough it is a very nice hotel, well maintained and beautiful gardens,we did not really enjoyed it as we should have been. Since we are on our honeymoon, we inquired in advance if something extra could be done. You only marry once.... Isn't it. Hotel Wailea was the only hotel that Was tough on this subject. As an extra they provided us with some chocolates at our room. Because I'm allergic to chocolate, my husband asked if they could give something else.... This was not possible..actually they just ignored the question and directed us to their other payable service.. We were spending 1300 dollar for three nights, maybe a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine should have been nice,no? Also the complimentary breakfast is pretty poor... Coffee or thee, water and some pastries were available. And thats all, the rest you had to order and pay. Pricelist for the wines too expensive! Food at the restaurant was great though, quality food. Also our room was next to a room that they were renovating, hence breakfast at the terrace was less attractive due to the noise. Moreover not much to do out there, no shows, activities, nothing. So to conclude, i assume there are better places to stay at, certainly for that price. Hands up for the bellboys though, very nice and helpfull guys.

Room Tip: The renovated rooms are really nice, but expensive!

Dear Nice, but...

It is very disheartening to hear that a simple amenity was not offered to you for your very special occasion. Please accept our apology. We have investigated this 'missed opportunity' to show true hospitality to one of our Honeymoon couples, and employee coaching has taken place.

Please feel free to contact me personally. I welcome any future comments or concerns. I can be reached at 808-874-0500, or kthompson@hotelwailea.com

Congratulations on your recent nuptials. We wish you many happy years together.

Sincerely,
Karen Thompson

Hotel Wailea is the best hotel discovery we have ever made in our travels. Because it is a "boutique" hotel, the entire property has only 42 rooms. I actually hesitate to call ours a "room", as it was easily the size of a comfortable one bedroom apartment. Rather than the traditional hotel, the rooms are in separate buildings that house 4 rooms each, making them have much more of a condo or townhouse feel. They are also nestled into the landscape, giving the whole place a much more natural, organic feeling. On top of this, you get all the luxury amenities of one of the larger, more commercial hotel, a top notch, friendly staff, and, in my opinion, the best restaurant on the island, Capische.

Room Tip: Well worth springing for the extra to get an upstairs ocean view room.

I just got done spending 7 days at Hotel Wailea and I miss it so much already! I booked here because of all the amazing reviews I had read on here some I arrived with high hopes and this place lived up to all expectations! First of all the staff here is soooo friendly! From the front desk staff to the bell boys, and pool bar staff. Carrie is the bartender at the pool and the drinks she made were amazing! She said she lived in the upcountry and she picks fresh fruits and ingredients for the drinks and brings them to the resort, I had a lavender mojito with fresh lavender she picked! And there's no shortage on alcohol in them either. This hotel is beyond gorgeous! Amazing views of the ocean and its so beautifully landscaped with gardens throughout, it is such a peaceful place. The rooms here are great too, they are all suites so you have a little space. The bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept it, I would pass out the minute I layed down each night. There's a small living area too. We had a panoramic ocean view suite and the view was amazing, I definitely suggest going for the panoramic view! The room we had was an un-renovated room but they are in the process of renovating them all and they look really modern and gorgeous. I loved the pool area here too, it's very boutique style with comfy couches and cabanas you can use at no charge, the pool area was never insanely busy and fouls always find somewhere to lay. This hot caters to adults for sure (saw maybe 2 children there) most people we saw were couples as I am assuming also honeymooners. If you like chaos and to feel like you're at Disney land go down the street and stay at Grand Wailea... If you want luxury, tranquility, peace, and quiet stay at Hotel Wailea. It's the best retreat in Maui and I can't wait to go back!

Stayed here for our honeymoon. It is beautiful! It is quiet though in a great location. The grounds are stunning and romantic, the rooms are clean with wonderful views and the pool area is relaxing. This is a hidden gem that you don't actually want everyone to know about!

If you are looking for an out of the way small but nice resort, Hotel Wailea is a good choice. While they have a great shuttle that will drop you off and pick you up locally I recommend a rental car. Drive to Lahaina. Lots of fun. The renovated suites were excellent. Spacious and modern with a full kitchen. Nice quiet pool and a superior restaurant on premises.
