“Sadly, not as good as we'd hoped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

We were looking forward to a meal at Ko and had reviewed the listing here on Tripadvisor and booked on Open Table well in advance.

The setting and decor is nothing overly special. There isn't a view.

Our server was pleasant but didn't go out of the way for anything.

The bread and spreads were excellent.

Overall our meal was good but nothing was great or outstanding. We found it rather expensive for the so so experience.

Too bad.

“Great guitarist but some dishes were an odd combination”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We loved the incredible guitarist playing that night. The classic mai tai was great as well. The bread/rice cakes we had were accompanied by an odd mix of toppings that did not obviously go with any particular item. The seafood pupu was comprised of an awesome prawn dish, a tasty pork lumpia, and a heavy, deep-fried sushi that should have been left unfried. I had a marlin dish that was much too heavy on the cream sauce and my wife had a dish that was a very bizarre combination of Korean BBQ beef ribs, tempura shrimp, kim chee, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and sprouts. The mix was just too weird and heavy. The main dishes are also pricey at 40-50 bucks each. Loved the music but not the food or the value.

Aloha and thank you for your review of Kō restaurant. We’re disappointed to learn that your recent experience was less than perfect and that you found the food combinations to be confusing. Our menu includes dishes from Maui’s many cultures: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Portuguese and Hawaiian. We do realize that this cuisine may be different than what many of our guests are accustomed to, but to us, it’s the food that we grew up eating. In fact, many of the recipes on the menu are submitted from our staff’s families and have been passed down for generations. That being said, we are very sorry that you were unsatisfied and sincerely hope you will consider returning in the future so we can provide an exceptional experience. Warmest aloha and thank you again.

“Food presentation and quality was superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is the best restaurant at the Fairmont. The service was excellent as well as the foodd quality and presentation. The flavours of each entry and food item have been very delicate and mouth watering along with the desserts.

Thank you for your terrific review of Kō! We’re thrilled that you were “wowed” by your dining experience and that you enjoyed Kō’s plantation-era inspired cuisine. Please be assured that your wonderful comments will be passed on Chef Tylun Pang and the service staff at Kō. Best wishes and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

“Ko Breakfast! WOw”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

For a whopping $34 you can eat to your hearts delight at their breakfast buffet. It was pricey and can't eat what I paid for because it was too much. Very fresh though and we had a choice table overlooking the poolside. The wait staff were so friendly and helpful.
