We wandered into Cheeseburger Island Style after visiting the Shops at Wailea. Kitschy Hawaiian decor, lots of fruity drinks. We enjoyed reading the story of the chain on the menu. After ordering drinks, we ordered a cheeseburger (declining an aggressive attempt to upsell us to the Kobe beef burger) and onion rings and told our server we'd be sharing. When the food came, the burger was in one basket and the rings in another. When we asked for a plate, we were given a tiny saucer. We divvied up the food which was adequate but not great. The bun fell apart under the burger. The batter on the onion rings was too sweet for my taste. After we gave them our credit card, we sat at our table for fifteen minutes waiting to get it back while four to six staff chatted at the bar. I finally got up and asked that our card be returned to us. I was so irritated by this time that I left my spouse to finish up. A great example of how indifferent service can ruin a dining experience. I don't mind paying a split plate fee, but when you tell them you are sharing staff should be trained to inquire a) may we split that for you, and by the way there is a $3 fee or b) we can split that for you or would you prefer to do it yourself or c) at least bring an empty plate or basket big enough for you to do it yourself without having to ask for it when you told them you'd be sharing in the first place!
