“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

My wife and I stayed at Makena during a business meeting. It was the best getaway I could have imagined. The rooms were very nice, spacious and kept very clean. It was obviously one of the original luxury resorts on the island. the grounds and environment were spectacular. So much to do on the island, no way were could have seen it all in 1 week, but the concierge helped us get in as much local flavor as possible. We had a very romantic renewal of our wedding vows on the "secret cove". It is the most southern resort on the leeward side of the island making it less crowded with the most spectacular sunsets. I just can't wait to go back to paradise.

Nice location, on main "drag" of resorts but still a little ways away from hustle and bustle, accessible to Wailea & Kilea restaurants & highway.
Very nice room, larger than other hotel rooms we've stayed in with a full walk-out balcony with good view (unlike Atlantis in the Bahamas where we've stayed in small rooms with a "balcony" you can not even step out on). Good water pressure in the shower, has a refridgerator and a microwave wouldve been helpful. Excellent housekeeping service and desk service. Beds are the usual hotel beds that sink in the middle.
Excellent service, breakfast buffet is excellent & varied, excellent food and service, did not try the brunch. Never ate dinner at the hotel b/c we wanted to explore.
Beach is very nice & protected, always able to get a lounge chair. Excellent snorkeling right there, boogie boards for rent as well as paddle boards and kayaks.
Not so happy with concierge service -- booked a snorkeling excursion through them that was not was i was looking for. I believe i was pretty clear with what i wanted -- a snorkeling trip from a shoreline, not dumped in the middle of cold ocean b/c we wanted to explore a beach as well, but not much attention was paid to my detailed email describing what i was looking for. Either i got the wrong impression of what she wanted to book for us, or she was not altogether honest. The excursion itself (Maui Magic) was fine & did a good job with the trip, but it was not what we were looking for and I felt this was unfairly sold to us by the concierge. Ended up spending $400+ to go out on the boat towards a protected island you cannot set foot on -- ie no beach, dumped in the middle of deep ocean. Snorkeling experience for us was much better just spending $9/hr on hotel snorkel & fins and going out on the hotel beach, there is a beautiful coral reef right there. My kids saw 4 sea turtles close enough to touch, plenty of fish and eels.
In general a great stay, couldve been happier with concierge service.

We just left after a 6 day visit and we can't say enough about the service and hospitality. Our room was immaculate and we were helped at very turn. Although we were told the resort was 90% full it never seemed overcrowded. We hope to return again!

We had a great time while at Makena Beach and Golf Resort. We loved our walks, breakfast, workouts, poolside lunch, beach time and great dinners during our stay. Also we loved watching the sunsets from our room. Excellent time! Highly recommend!

The location is very good as it is a little ways away from Wailea and thus, not as crowded. The room was probably between average and very good and we had a very good view with pretty sunsets almost every night. I do not recommend the main restaurant unless you really like buffets. The Sunday Brunch was pretty good. The staff is friendly. My main complaint and pretty much only one regards the pool...there are no regular steps to enter it, only ladders. I have never seen a pool at a hotel without steps. Also the hot tub is "residential" type as opposed to a built in one and although the chemicals were regularly being checked, it wasn't one we'd use.

Our resort was amazing! Everybody is so nice and courteous. The view is beautiful! The only down fall is some of the island's main attractions are quite a drive from the resort. The resort's main restaurant had extremely slow service but there are so many restaurants in the area that you can go somewhere else. Other than that, the staff was great as well as the atmosphere. The hotel had full occupancy but you'd never know. I did not run into an over crowded pool or beach.

The value is outstanding. Very reasonable prices and excellent , service, rooms and dining options. We loved it and we'll be back for our next "staycation". The beds are so comfortable, just like being at home. The landscaping and pools and waterfalls are all so gorgeous and relaxing. The food at all the restaurants if great! We just love it here.
