“Fabulous Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2009

The rooms and the location of the Grand Wailea are first class all the way. It's a huge resort and its layout can be a bit confusing at first. Depending on your room location you may have a very long walk to the pools. The staff is attentive but not overly friendly or helpful. The restaurants and shops are outrageously expensive, but you are their captive audience so be prepared. Guest rooms are large with extremely comfortable bedding and are beautifully appointed with big, modern and well laid-out bathrooms. Outstanding views, a great beach, wonderful pools, together with an award winning spa on property and lots of good golf nearby make this resort a must.. Enjoy!

The Rooms were Great! Staff was extremely nice! Plenty of things around the resort for both children and adults! Very Pricey, but worth it!

We spent 6 nights at this resort and it was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is beautiful, the sculptures and gardens magnificant, the entire staff catered to every need and were so professional. From the front desak clerk, maids, gardeners, landscape professionals and all staff-it was obvious how proud they are of their work and the resorts image, Our room was wonderful, close to one of the many pools and framed by the beach and ocean. The room was very clean and decorated well. The food excellent and presentation excellent The beach was beautiful, and the laua was very, very nice. I highly recommend this resort. It is a treat from the moment you pull up to this resort until your last moment. Be sure and enjoy the brunch!

The Grand Wailea was a great resort vacation spot. I have never been big on staying at resorts while on Hawaii but traveling with a 2 year old changed that. She loved the water parks as did my wife and I. The service was great, the spa was spectacular with the different water treatments before the actual massage. The rooms were very clean and the cleaning staff was friendly. They accommodated our needs very well, parking was not a big issue with a rental car (they have a free garage), and they were very helpful in suggesting attractions.

We immediately loved this hotel. Very lush, waterfalls, pools, tropical gardens everywhere. Very open air concept, no front doors, window in the main lobby. Our room had an ocean and waterfall views. I think they have at least 3 pools. We didn't have children with us, but they would have been in heaven!!. Also loved the resort charge. It includes just about everything, from valet parking to personal service with beach chairs and umbrella. We never felt nickeled and dimed. Which is very rare. Restaurants were good, but not great. The economy has caused them to shut down several of the restaurants that they advertised on their website. All and all, it was a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone. Also forgot to mention their AMAZING SPA...which features complimentary mud baths, seaweed baths, etc. And if you like spinning classes, be sure to take one of there classes here...the instructor Nancy was just great!!

Last summer, my husband, our two young adult children, and I made our first trip to Hawaii. When I saw that The Grand Wailea on Maui was considered a Hilton Honors hotel, we knew we could expect the quality of our stay to measure up to the high expectations we had for our trip. And we were not at all disappointed. We knew we were making a financial sacrifice for even our short two-day stay at The Grand Wailea, but our stay was like a dream! (I rated the resort 'average' for 'Value' simply because the room rate is a bit expensive -- even for Maui -- though it offers a great stay if affordable.)

Upon check-in, we were thrilled to find that our upgrade gave us an absolutely beautiful view of the ocean! And that was the great beginning to our wonderful stay. Our visit to Maui was one that we have talked about incessantly, and will remember joyfully. The resort's common space and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and our room was so neat, clean, and tastefully decorated. The front-desk staff at the Grand Wailea went out of their way to provide us advice about convenient and more affordable dining options within the hotel as well as the locals' place, Da Kitchen, in nearby Kihei. They also advised us of inexpensive tour options like the beautiful Iao Valley, and shared the value of us doing even an abbreviated drive up the Road to Hana!

The service we received from the Grand Wailea's bellmen, front desk, housekeeping, and dining wait staff was so cordial and valuable. We also enjoyed pleasant conversation with our bartender in one of Grand Wailea’s restaurants, while we took in the gorgeous sunset! And my daughter and I had great fun with the water slides and pools! When it came time for us to leave the resort, our bellman was a genius in the way he methodically situated all of our luggage in the trunk of our car -- on the first try! The Grand Wailea indeed offers the full package! And we will recommend it highly to our friends and acquaintances who are seeking a first-rate vacation on Maui.

There is nothing grand about this place other than the prices. If we had paid $200-250 a night I would be giving this hotel a better review, but we paid far more than that . They claim $50 Mil in renovations, but our room seemed dated and there was black stuff (mold maybe??) in the shower. For 2 nights, the cleaning people failed to remove the dirty glasses from our room and we had to set them outside to have them replaced. On first night, I went down to the pool, and could not a towel. So I asked one of the hotel staff and they instructed me to get on the phone and request a towel. Well a few minutes later another staff person comes by the pool and she has folded up fresh towels on her golf cart; naturally I assumed one was for me, because I was the only person at the pool. When I asked her about the towel she told me I had to call the desk and request one!! I told her that I had already did that, and her reply was that I had to wait. She then proceeded to grab the clean towels up and carry them back into some storage area. I was just about to create a stink when another gentleman comes walking by with a clean towel..... Overall this place was average...

Positives:
1. Wonderful Sunsets
2. Nice beach right outside of the hotel
3. Free internet (Negative with this also)
4. Free Bike Rental (at least for us anyway)
5. Plenty of on site activities (you have to pay though)
6. Awesome Pools!!!

Negatives:
1. Customer Service could be improved with some of the grounds staff (Desk staff and the people out in the front were excellent).
2. No courtesy shuttle from airport to hotel; you have to either:
a. Rent a Car
b. Speedy Shuttle ($28 per person; need to give the guy a tip also)
3. Free internet has a limited connection speed. If you want faster, you have to pay.

Tips:
1. Bus stop less than 1/4 mile away from the hotel. Costs $1 and will take you to kehai for plenty of shopping; sushi; etc
2. They do offer free bike rentals, but you better be in shape cause there are hills galore.
3. Rent a Car if you plan on going on any off site excursions!
4. Some excursions will pick you up; make sure that you book with them.
5. The mall next door has alcohol and good restaurants
