“Nice remodel of room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This was our 4th stay at this hotel. The rooms were undergoing renovation, and getting a nice modern feel. The grounds as usual were amazing, the breakfast delicious, and staff friendly and helpful. One irritation is the wait to get your car, call well in advance of when you want to leave.

This was our second visit to the Grand Wailea (I am Hilton Diamond level). They are in the midst of a room renovation. Trust me, for the in season rates they charge, the room reno was way overdue! Last year we stayed in a room before renovation (it was tired and old and no way worth the price they were asking for a night). This year we stayed in a newly renovated room. What a big difference from last year (almost). Yes, the room was fresh with some new furniture and carpet and much lighter colors, but to our surprise the hotel still kept the bathroom hamper, coffee table, lanai furniture, bathroom sink, shower and tub fixtures. If you hadn't stayed before renovation, you may not have noticed, but we did. Some of these older pieces just didn't belong mixed in with the new. That being said, we would not hesitate staying their again (which we will). We found the staff very friendly (especially Noreen at the front desk and Garrett greeting new check ins at the entrance). We visited the Marriott, Four Season's and Fairmont properties during this visit to see what the properties looked like. They were all nice, but could not come close to the Grand Wailea's property in sheer beauty and looks! The pool areas were also much larger than the others too! Food prices were out of sight, but all the hotels in Wailea will have that too. All that being considered, we believed the Grand Wailea stood out as the best in looks and facilities.

Room Tip: Request a newly renovated room, oceanview, no lower than the 7th floor.

This hotel was incredible. The views, the hotel itself, the food, the beach/pool, the golf courses. Everything was magnificent. I never post any reviews and I had to post a review for this hotel. If I ever go back to Maui, I'm definitely staying here.

This hotel property is beautiful. The location is fabulous. The housekeeping staff needs to pay closer attention to servicing all rooms and maintenance needs to check the rooms. The phone was not programmed and beds need to be made.

Loved the family space - great pools to lounge around and kids have big fun. Beach is great. And Big beach up the road is stunning well worth venturing out of resort. Get a hire car and see the island it's wonderful. The hotel staff needed to provide more info as we knew nothing about being able to hire a fridge for the room which was great when having a family. The hotel restaurants weren't great but buffet breakfast was excellent. Lots of tourists had massively reduced rates from loyalty awards which always makes you feel like a sucker when you have paid top rates. Did generally feel that if you didn't know all the secrets of how to get everything you were taken advantage of

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for ocean views and not near the pool area if you are a late riser.

My wife, daughter and I met my sister's family of five at the Grand Wailea. My sister and I grew up in Hawaii, and she and her family now live on Oahu. Even though this was a stay-cation for them, we were all suitably impressed by an extraordinary experience at this "grand" resort.

Here are the positives and negatives:
+ The pool. The network of water slides, the rope swing (along with helpful pointers on how to do a backflip), and unique features like rapids kept the kids (ages 8-12) and adults very entertained.
+ Giant, high quality television in the room. Good for movies in case of inclement weather.
+ Great gym. Two levels, plenty of equipment (capacity and variety), and delicious cold green tea.
+ Immaculate grounds. Hotel staff seem to be constantly at work trimming trees and cleaning sidewalks. Their pride in their work shows.
+ Short walk to The Shops at Wailea, where there are lots of stores and restaurants

- Pricey. This is not a cheap hotel. Even after the $600+ per night basic room charge and mandatory extras (resort fee, valet parking), dining at the hotel is quite expensive. Save a bit of money and eat at restaurants in Kihei. Or, even better, buy groceries and make your own breakfast / snacks in the room.
- Very large. This may not be an entirely bad thing. However, it can get tricky to find your way around and can take awhile to get places.
- Busy valet parking. Mitigate this by taking advantage of the second valet parking terminal near the ballroom entrance on the side.

Room Tip: Rooms on level 1 are on the same floor as the gym and provide easy access to the pool

Absolutely loved this hotel! could not have asked for a better more luxurious place to stay with such friendly staff! I will definitely come back! (Also loved that we could rent umbrellas and bicycles) - only thing is the daily resort fee of $25 that I did not know about. Other than that, this hotel was B-E-A-UTIFUL!

Aloha C840AWStephanies,

Mahalo for your review and staying with us! Our beach umbrellas and bicycles are complimentary to our guests, we're glad to hear you enjoyed them during your stay! I'm sorry to hear that the resort fee wasn't communicated to you before your stay; we're always looking for ways to improve on our communication process and will examine where we can better communicate the resort credit during the pre-arrival process.

We hope to welcome you back again soon!
