“Beautiful but Pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

This hotel was one of four we visited while looking at future business conference sites. Came highly recommended by a friend who got married there, and I agree it would be a great wedding site, if your budget allows for it. You will pay Waldorf Astoria prices, and you will get high quality rooms (not a bad one in the house), beautiful property, landscaping, and even the bonus of an excellent art collection. That being said, our bathroom was less than squeaky clean. We were also disappointed at the less than warm/fuzzy attention we received from the staff. Although we received attentive service, there was a slight coldness and impatience we kept feeling from our interactions with staff. The other three hotels were very warm and welcoming in comparison. Meeting spaces were grand and plenty of different venue choices. I fell in love with the little wedding chapel by the sea! Great options for the kids as far as pools and activities. If this property is in your budget, you will enjoy beautiful scenery every where you look. But we found the attitude of staff slightly snobby.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay in Maui last week to celebrate our Anniversary. We spent 6 perfect days and nights iat the Grand Wailea and then had an extra day and night that we chose to spend in the Kaanapali area (our stay at the other hotel was far from perfect and very disappointing).

The hotel provided great service, wonderful grounds, and the perfect atmosphere to relax. Even though the Hibiscus pool was being renovated, the rest of the resort was in great condition.

We would definitely recommend the Wailea-area and Grand Wailea to Maui visitors.

Besides the resort being well run, clean, and beautifully maintained, the beach is fantastic, and the walking path is a great way to start or end a day.

I should say, however, that some of the pools were not to my liking -- mostly kids and families and making a lot of noise. For peace and quiet, the beach or covered chairs facing the beach are a better choice. I prefer the ocean, so didn't even take a dip in the pools or waterslide, or the water elevator. However, they do provide guests nice towels that can be used on the ocean or at the pool, so its all good. The ocean beach can get breezy in the afternoon.

The restaurant (forget the name, right kind of above the main pool) was pretty good for lunch or afternoon snacks or a cocktail.

The resort is situated near the end of the Kihei bus route, so if you don't have a car, the local bus is an option -- I used it myself to go to the municipal swimming pool in Kihei where I could swim laps (impossible at the hotel). Also close by is a shopping center (Village at Wailea? not sure of the name), where you can pick up sundries, sandwiches, gifts or even more high end art things, etc. There's a coffee shop and a restaurant or two in there too. Accessible via easy walk through the parking garage and out the other side.

This resort is quite large, as is the beachfront. Some OK snorkeling is possible on the right side of beach, where there is a small reef, but otherwise its just sand on the bottom.

Have been there twice - in 2010 and 2013. Both were business related trips. Happy with both rooms, though the lower room we had in 2010, facing the wedding chapel, was a little better than the room we had this year.

Aloha Reviewer,

Thanks for the great review! Isn't the Kihei Aquatic center awesome! Thanks for the great shout out. By the way, the mall next door to us is called The Shops at Wailea and is my personal favorite shopping center on Maui!

We hope you come back to visit us again soon.

A hui hou!

We decided to stay for 1 night at the Grand Wailea on a recent trip to Maui to check it out. Based on our experience we will DEFINITELY be coming back for a longer stay. The place is just beautiful, the staff / service is amazing, the location is incredible. First, a little truth in advertising - we reserved an ocean front room but we were upgraded to a suite. Needless to say, the suite was truly amazing but I won't focus on that since is not the normal experience (and I'm sure won't be ours when we come back). The large Hibiscus pool and surrounding areas were also under construction but it really didn't seem to be an issue while we were there (this is a marked contrast to our Hyatt stay on the same trip where construction was everywhere).

The resort is big - be ready to do some walking. But the landscaping and buildings are so well done, it is more of an adventure to walk around.

The pool (Wailea Canyon pools) is really amazing. We don't have kids but it is still loads of fun. Take the water elevator (they claim it is the only one in the world - don't know about that but it is fun) up to the top and then slide from pool to pool down the water slides. Then, float along the lazy river and back to the main pool and the water elevator. In September there were some kids playing but it was actually pretty calm. I imagine during other parts of the year, these pools are really crowded because it is do much fun.

The beach area in front of the Grand Wailea is really nice. The resort fee includes a beach umbrella and chair which we didn't do but I am sure that would be nice. A word of warning, at least the 2 days we sat out by the pool, the wind picked up around noon and the umbrellas had to come down.

We ate dinner at Alan Wong's Amazia which was really nice. The menu is based on small dishes so you can really try multiple different things which was a treat. Everything was really good.

In terms of our goal of checking out the Grand Wailea, it really delivered. We are already trying to figure out when we can come back and stay for several more days!

Wonderful resort, from the service, accommodations, food....it was a most memorable vacation. It offers romance to family fun, the spawas amazing, with its 5 specialty hot baths to the lounging areas and my massage was most relazing, that I will never forget. Thank you Grand Wailea! Best of all...I was Proposed to!

Where do I begin? I love this amazing hotel! Excellent rooms, very clean and wonderful service. Love that there is an adults only pool, no bratty kids bugging you when you're trying to get some rest and relaxation. The staff and service puts this hotel at the top. Everyone greets you with an aloha and a smile, making you feel special. Food is excellent in every restaurant on the hotel premises..... drinks are exceptional too. If you really want a treat, hit up the spa. Best Spa Ever!!!!

Visited Grand Wailea for conference, but brought family for leisure. Our room with 2 queens had plenty of room, a very large clean bathroom. the conference rooms were well furnished and well attended to. The pools/ water elevator/ lazy river, and many many ocean activities kept the kids entertained (kayak, paddle surfboards, snorkeling). every restaurant had excellent food and wine selections. We were disappointed in the quality of specialty drinks at the pool. Wireless internet in the conference rooms and our room was excellent.
