“Watch the icebergs as you eat dinner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

This hotel has the best location to enjoy the UNESCO Ilulissat Ice Fjord. The rooms are very simple, Scandinavian/Ikea in style, and functional. The food is awesome - breakfast is full of surprises and the buffet dinner has some of the most interesting Greenlandic food to eat. The staff were so caring - my camera broke when I was there, and a very kind gentleman at the front desk loaned me his Nikon for 2 days. The view from the hotel is unbeatable. I was out taking photos at 3am in the morning. Overall, this is a great place to stay. I advise taking LOTS of mosquito spray - these are the worst mosquitos I have ever encountered, even worse than the Amazon. They will bite you through your pants and seem immune to certain types of repellant. I wish I had taken a hair/face net because they were buzzing everywhere.

I stayed at Hotel Arctic earlier this month. The rooms are well appointed and the service was very good. The staff was friendly and accommodated my request for feather-free pillows. The restaurants there were great in terms of food quality and the views. Also, their hourly shuttle service into town was great as well. It seems that most of the people who go on the World of Greenland tours end up staying at the Hotel Arctic.

I only had two negatives about this hotel. (1) The WiFi was weak in certain spots. (2) My room got very warm due to the 24 hours of sunlight and no A/C. This could have been a non-issue if my room had a mosquito screen. Still, despite these negatives, I would stay there again. i would just make sure that my trip would be outside of the June-Aug mosquito season OR make sure your room has a mosquito screen.

The views from both inside and outside the rooms were beautiful.

The staff were also outstanding. They made the effort to get for my frinds and I 3 kettles when we requested for them with no extra charges. In addition, the staff made the extra effort to help my friend locate his IPAD which was left in the Air Iceland plane.

The welcome dinner was good. Breakfast was good with wide variety. In addition, at around 3 pm, complimentary snacks are served.

Only issue with the hotel was no free Wifi and the charges was very high.

It has a very good restaurant. Try the freshly baked bread at the breakfast buffet. Be there by 5.45am to wait for the bread to come out from the oven. It will be tasty and fluffy! If you are there early, you can choose a good view to sit indoor and enjoy the iceberg view

One have to pay for the use of wifi. 1hr – 100 danish kronner, 24hr -300 danish kronner. At some place in the hotel, they place 1 laptop around for hotel guest to use, so that is very helpful too!
The room view is stunning too. You can chill out at your room and enjoy your own time there. Sometimes, sledge dogs may make noise while you are sleeping. If you need some entertainment with friends, head to the activity room and you can play foosball or wit v game. Perhaps make some music with their electronic piano.

Take note of the nus schedule. It leaves hourly to the World of Greenland Centre. From there, you can walk and explore places and be amongst the locals. The bus also departs from the centre to bring you back to your hotel every hourly till a certain time. Be sure not to miss the bus!

Room Tip: Facing the Sea

Perhaps the best hotel in Illulissat as there wasn't much choice in this part of the world. Our room was facing a wonderful panorama view of icebergs. However, with almost 24 hours sunlight, our room on the 5th floor did not equip with heavy curtain to block the light; room was hot and stuffy during mid-day; we were unable to open the windows as there was no mosquito net installed to block tons of aggressive artic mosquitos in summer. Overall we didn't have a very comfortable experience like others did.

Plus:
-Terrific location with a breath-taking view of icebergs, nice hiking trail behind the hotel;
-Complimentary shuttle bus to/from airport; and to/from town every hour;
-Modern, clean room, comfortable bed;
-Complimentary internet use in the lobby area and the gallery.

Cons:
-Hot and stuffy room without mosquito net;
-Restaurant service was not too efficient, there appeared to be only one waiter available in each restaurant;
-Check out time 10:30am.

This is a beautiful hotel with a spectacular view of the inlet and icebergs. The air is clear and fresh (the windows open) and the hotel staff, in all positions, are kind, welcoming and very helpful. I found the rooms particularly quiet. I attended a get together of about 10 people in another room and I wasn't sure I had the right room because I didn't hear anything until I knocked and the door was opened.

The rooms are modern and stylish but also very comfortable with high quality cotton sheets and everything exceptionally clean.

I love fish so the menu was fine for me but be warned that in this part of the world you won't find a lot of fresh vegetables or fruits on offer or even much chicken or red meat. Still, the way of eating reflects the different lifestyle of those who live in Greenland so adds to the enjoyment. The rooms on floors 5, 6 and 7 ending in "11" include a bath and a small corner balcony.

A truly beautiful hotel and experience.

Room Tip: The rooms on floors 5, 6 and 7 ending in "11" include a bath and a small corner balcony.

We had booked the superior igloo. Unfortunately, due to the weather, our booking could not be honoured. This was the experience that we had been looking forward to. Taking on board our disappointment, the manager agreed to let us stay in a suite complimentary on the hotel: going over and above what we expected. and the staff treated us like kings. The food was excellent, breakfasts incorporating greenlandic, british and continental products. The also have beer brewed especially for them which is very drinkable.

Room Tip: room availability depends on the weather conditions. The closer to the airport the room, the better...
