“Fantastic experience in Greenland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

This is a really good hotel in a truly remote location. The views, the experience is spectacular.
Even the food was pretty awesome (although lunches were not as good as breakfast and dinner).
This is the best place to stay in Illulisat and the staff does a great job.
I celebrated my birthday here and the cake was worth the travel!
Greenland forever!

Room Tip: My husband and I had a junior suite which was simply stunning with a balcony and seating area. Our k...

Rooms were nice & warm. Opening the curtains at night allowed you to watch the awesome Northern Lights! Restaurant food of a very high standard. Some varied choices including musk ox, Whale & reindeer

Pretty much every room seems to have a nice view of the sea. The hourly shuttle to the town is very useful. Although the hotel doesn't have a fitness center, guests get free access to the very well equipped fitness center in town.

PLUSES: We stayed in Igloo 5, with unencumbered views of icebergs & harbor entrance. Witnessed the aurora borealis over the southern horizon one night! We FaceTimed family from the igloo using our own wireless hotspot. Our waitress for the week, Judith, was attentive, informative, & friendly. She noticed our enjoyment of the stingray “amuse bouche” one night, & asked Chef Jeppe to prepare an entrée of it for us the following night. The restaurant menu & wine list offered good variety. The local hotel manager, who speaks perfect Greenlandic, Danish & English, noticed that my husband is from South Africa, & greeted him in Afrikaans! A driver meets each incoming flight & offers hourly rides into town. Tap water is good to drink.
MINUSES: The igloos are luxury camping, not a hotel experience. All of our igloos’ windows leaked with every rain & snow. Even with buckets under the windows, the carpet was sodden which caused us sinus infections. The shower is a hose with holes in the end connected to the sink faucet. Hot water lasts exactly one and one-half minutes. Upon arriving, we had to figure out how to convert the couch system into a bed from various shapes of plyboard & foam. (It was a fun challenge, which we achieved with much laughter.)

Room Tip: Igloo 5 had the best view, nothing between Igloo 5 and the ocean ice.

The igloo hotel room I stayed in was so cute and novel, but the wifi doesn't reach out to those rooms and its also quite a cold shuffle from the hotel out to the igloos.

The staff are very helpful and friendly, but although they say its a ten minute walk into town, allow half an hour.

The view from the igloo was glorious, out to a field of icebergs in the sea. Nice breakfast too, I'd recommend this hotel but probably not the igloo for an extended stay, a night in there was fun and perfect.

Room Tip: Igloo was fun but no wifi there.

We stayed in this hotel in August this year (2013) which was the end of summer. The hotel was very comfortable and had touches of luxury including clean, well appointed rooms, a free welcome and farewell dinner in the restaurant which was prohibitively expensive to eat in at any other time and good wifi access, which was a pleasant surprise even though it was not free. We found the reception staff were not up to the standard of a 4 star hotel which they claim to be and the restaurant and cafe staff formal rather than friendly in their approach to service. The shuttle bus into town every hour made it very easy to access the facilities there as well as the great variety of tours and activities available. After a busy day hiking, sailing or flying around icebergs and granite mountains it was fantastic to have this hotel to come home to each day. The views from all areas were stunning and ones that you could never tire of. After spending 10 nights here and having a good look around the town, I would definitely recommend staying here over the other options if you possibly can.

Room Tip: The top 2 levels have the best views despite them telling us that all rooms have spectacular views...

You will probably not find a hotel with a more stunning view anywhere in the world.

The hotel is located high in the hills above Ilulissat half way between the airport and the city overlooking the Ilulissat ice fjord. It sounds like a remote location but in fact there is less than 5 min. by car to either the airport or the town. There is a shuttle bus every hour from the hotel.

Although this is a 4-star hotel – and probably the best in Greenland – where all the celebrities usually check-in, there was a surprisingly lack of attention to details from the staff.

The restaurant appeared rather dirty; At lunch time the tablecloths had not been changed from the night before and was full of stains and used toothpicks. Old food debris were also present on the floor.
