“It doesn't get any better than this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Our trip to Villa Tropical was probably the best vacation I've ever been on. No really, it was amazing. I've been to Puerto Rico several times, but only the San Juan and Condado areas. However, this time my boyfriend and I decided to get away from the tourist crowds and try Villa Tropical.
Villa Tropical was absoluelty amazing. We had a beautiful villa right on the beach. We stayed in Q2. It was clean and simple and exactly what we expected after seeing the photos online. Every morning we would walk right onto the beach and and have it completely to ourselves. And at night we would grill up some fish and eat on the oceanfront deck. The fact that we were away from all the packs of tourist and busy street made everything feel so relaxing.
Even though we loved the laid back feel we're still really active people. We went snorkling right in front of our villa, kayaking, spearfishing, surfing, standup paddleboarding (with Aquatica highly recommended), swimming, hiking, and even went crabbing with a couple that was in the villa next to us! It was the perfect combination of relaxation and activity. And without any of the overpriced fees you'd get at a large resort!
Lastly, everyone was so wonderful and kind. People would come visit our porch and chat. We would share drinks and talk with other guests. I've never had the experience of staying somewhere that you could make friends and share stories with people from all over the country. We met so many amazing people. Not only that but the employees of Villa Tropical were so helpful too!
I had the most unbelievable experience here. It was truely a magical place! I just got home yesterday and can't stop telling everyone that they have to visit. And as for my boyfriend and I, we're already planning our next trip to Villa Tropical!

Room Tip: Try to make reservations for an oceanfront villa! The views are spectacular!

We stayed at Villa Tropical with another couple for six nights. We stayed at the Villa Felisha condo number 2. It was two bedroom, one bath and was perfect. You could walk out the doors and down some steps to the beach. The staff was awesome, everything you need is there. I rented a surf board for a couple days. They also had kayaks and other stuff free of charge.

The snorkeling right in front of the condo was some of the best. Penny and I rented dive gear and did a couple shallow dives right off the beach. Saw sea turtles, all kinds of fish and lots of crabs and sea urchins and other stuff.

I would definitely recommend this place to stay.

Room Tip: If you're looking for dive and/or surf shop thats really close lookup Aquatica Dive center.

I'm a graduate student, who is pretty easy going and was traveling with my girlfriend on this trip.

We tried to be spontaneous with our last few days in Puerto Rico. So we didn't know where we were staying until those days came around. I remembered finding Villa Tropical on google maps before the vacation began and showed my girlfriend, the morning we ran out of places to stay. She quickly approved and called Villa Tropical to see if they had any rooms available for that evening and the next. All they could offer was 1B of Villa Tropical $100/night, not our first choice but we took it. And we enjoyed our stay very much.

I felt like I was family, they walked us to our room when we arrived. They allowed us to check in an hour early so we could take a nap. They gave us advice for where to eat and what to do in the surrounding area. Cookie, one of the front desk ladies/managers ordered pizza for us because our spanish was poor. They have surf boards, snorkels, and other equipment for you to rent at competitive rates. They even let me borrow a vacuum cleaner to get all the sand out of our car. And the last thing I loved was each room came with a folder containing information about everything you could think of in the area, such as places to rent surf boards, restaurants, grocery stores, excursions, emergency phone numbers, horse back riding, attractions in the area, etc... Each listing had a little personal description of whether it was highly recommended or expensive or some other blurb.

The room wasn't luxurious but it was essentially a one bedroom/one bath apartment with a kitchen and small living room. The shower left a little to be desired, the water never got hot, it got warm but not hot. But this was only $100/night and we were directly on a gorgeous beach that had low traffic to the public. I talked to a couple of other guests and they loved Villa Tropical, as well.

We recently stayed at Villa Tropical for a relatively short get away. The location of the Villa Tropical is stunning. Shacks beach is absolutely gorgeous and - if the heat doesn't bother you -morning runs by the water is an absolute must. The water is lovely and great for swimming, although the currents in some areas are pretty strong. The coral reefs provide a barrier for some of the beach front, which makes for calmer water and easier swimming.

The Villa Tropical itself is a little bit run down and it seems to vary quite a bit as to quality from unit to unit. We stayed in a room in the back of the Villa Tropical building (not ocean front) our first night due to unavailability of the other units our first night and moved to an ocean front studio for the remainder of our trip. The first night's stay was uncomfortable - the room was dingy and small and received quite a glare from lights around the building. The second unit we stayed in was much better, although still run down and a bit shabby. The view, however, was incredible from the (shared) deck and the proximity to the beach (right on top of it) and ocean was incredible.

Overall, this is not a luxury resort and, if the room is a priority, maybe isn't the best option. If location is your focus, though, this place is quite a find. We recommend, though, assuring you have an ocean front unit and, if you want a little more privacy, one with its own deck.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean front room and be aware that not all units have their own decks. The shared decks h...

First let me start off by saying the staff is the best thing about this place! Everyone we met was friendly and overly helpful. They truly do make the experience more enjoyable. Now on the less desirable stuff ...

Accomodations: Granted you are on a beautiful beach in the middle of no where, but really most of the units here are old, rundown and in need of TLC. There are a few units that are more modern, but the majority will remind you of garage sales and thrift stores. Bottom line: Do not expect things to be "comfortable", expect them to be "so-so".

Location: You really need to understand this is a very, very small beach town and you will be relatively far removed from anything considered "luxorious". You'll be hanging with the locals and while this isn't neccessarily bad, it can be a bit overwhelming for first time visiters.

Beaches: The beaches here are spectacular and the water is as blue as every caribbean photo you've ever seen. All of the units are located directly on the "Blue Hole" and snorkeling is just steps from your door. However, there is quite a strong undertow so be cautious.

While I enjoyed my visit, I probably won't be back. On the last night of my stay I walked down to the Villa Montana to enjoy an evening drink and was kicking myself for having not stayed there. With a restaurant onsite and beautiful grounds and accomodations, the additional monies would have been worth it.

I would reccommend the Villa Tropical for couples/individuals looking to completely disconnect from the world. Families would probably find it difficult to keeps kids entertained when not at the beach and dining options are extremely limited.

We splurged a little and opted for the three bedroom/ 2 1/2 bathroom villa the M3. With two pre-teens and an overworked husband, this unit gave us exactly what we needed. Yes, it was a little more expensive than some of the other units but it was spectacular. As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for" The unit was beautiful with an amazing kitchen/eating area. Comfortable beds all with ceiling fans and air conditioning. Some reviewers suggested that the units were old and needed "attention" but ours was perfect. Perhaps spending a little extra allowed us to be spoiled. The snorkeling was great especially at low tide. The beach was wonderful and not as busy as near by Jobos. We liked ours better as it catered to some local families and an array of visitors from various countries. The wind was a welcome treat as we were told that it was unseasonably hot for the time of the year. The information that was left in our unit with suggestions for restaurant, attractions and beaches was a welcome tool for our 5 day stay. We will definitely return to VT in the future.

Room Tip: splurge a litte so you can get the best views, the most room and top notch accommodations. M3 was q...

We've been going to Villa Tropical for over six years, and thought of it as a wonderful, undiscovered vacation spot. You wake up, open the doors, and there is the ocean--I can't think of a better way to start the day. Located at the bottom of a long road down to the beach--hence no traffic noise at all--the condos all face the beachfront, where there are many places to snorkel, or when the winds are high, kitesurf. stand up board surfing, windsurfing--you get the picture. All very laid back, and very beautiful, We're just sorry that the world seems to have found it as well.

Room Tip: We have always preferred the rooms in Q (that's the name of an apartment complex) although this...
