“But have a car”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Puerto Rico's northwest coast is a hidden jewel in the Caribbean. In my opinion, Isabela is far nicer than Rincon or Cabo Rojo or any of the island's east coast towns. Royal Isabela takes it to a new level. If you want a place that's "passable" head into Aguadilla or Rincon. But for a quiet stay with amazing views at every step, the casitas here at RI are second to none. Everyone knows about the golf. But our favorite moments were picking herbs in the resort garden for the chef, and morning walks on the quiet property. Rent a car though. The island's best beach are a few miles away. Gotta drive through the island's lush interior and hit the great little hole-in-the-wall restaurants toward Jobos too.

Room Tip: There's construction on the hill. Might want to ask for a casita away from it. Bring ear plugs i...

Thank you for your review Truth is Gold. It is wonderful to be considered a hidden jewel in the Caribbean! Great to know that you were able to share with our Chef José Carles in gathering herbs at the organic garden. We want our guests to feel at home, and this is something you would do at yours! As you mention, it is always helpful to have a car so that you can explore the neighboring towns and attractions and discover more about beautiful Puerto Rico. Hope to have you back!

Magnificent property with a top notch and challenging golf course which includes tees in which you have to drive over cliffs. The room was way beyond our expectation with your own private pool. The bathroom is very spacious. Is the ultimate relaxation experience after a round of golf or tennis. The exterior bar is perfect !!

Greetings Eric Aviles! Thank you for your wonderful review. At Royal Isabela we strive to offer the best possible experience and are delighted that you enjoyed our lodgings and golf course. For your next visit, we suggest you book private golf instructions with our PGA Golf Pro, Miguel Suárez. If in the mood for a nature adventure, try a Farm River tour at the Guajataca River. You can choose from Kayaking, a Stand-Up Paddleboarding or hiking. Looking forward to your next visit!

Returned last week from a wonderful stay at Royal Isabela. I must applaud the Pasarell brothers for creating this luxurious resort. Loved everything about it.
1) The employees could not be nicer- from the concierges, to the caddies, everyone could not help you enough. They have trained a terrific staff that genuinely works at making your enjoyable stay their highest priority.
2) The casitas are very large, private, and contain all the amenities of a 5 star resort. The comfortable bed, HUGE bathroom, private plunge pool, large deck, and great soaps all make your accomodation more than a home away from home.
3) The golf course was as unique as any I've ever played. What vistas! Hitting over cliffs, par 3 island greens, and ocean breezes all made for 3 enjoyable and memorable rounds of golf. The experienced caddies were so helpful and could really read the greens. The course was in great condition.
4) the restaurant served a delicious breakfast that was included in the room rate. I had 3 dinners at the Royal Isabela La Casa restaurant. They were truly gourmet. The talented chef far surpasses what any other local restaurant can offer.
I am looking forward to another vacation at Royal Isabela. Hoping to convince some friends to join us on our next visit.

This is the most beautiful stretch of land that I've visited in Puerto Rico. My husband had been eyeing the website for awhile and really wanted to golf here. We recently got the chance to visit, and no pictures can do it justice. The views are like nothing I've ever seen. The casitas are like having your own little house complete with a small pool on the large patio. They are clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Staff is very nice and helpful. All of the food we ate was delicious. Food is prepared fresh and ingredients are gathered daily from the farm that is located on the property. Everything from laying by the pool, to golfing, to the beach, felt like the private resort/country club that it is. There are tennis courts and a lap pool as well as a pool meant for spending the day relaxing. The golf course deserves it's own review, but it is amazing, especially the holes overlooking the ocean below. This is now officially my husband's favorite golf course. We can't wait to go back!

Just got back and have not stopped thinking about it. Rather then repeat what has been said above all of which I agree with I will pick out some other items. We were eight golfers many who had played great courses Pebble, St Andrews, Green Monkey, Bally Bunion etc., we all agreed this was the best course we ever played. At the moment the course has very litle play and is in pristine condition. the greens were playing 12+. We met the one of he principles and his group on the 12 Tee. Everyone introduced themselves, talked about the course and then in a very UnTrump like gesture insisted as guests we play through. Stanley is a real gentleman.

Dinner was great. The dinning room is equiped with very comfortable chairs that you can sit in for a long dinner and be comfortable.

One of the ways I look to see how good a resort may be before arriving is looking at the quality of the pool furiniture. RI does not dissapoint; it is teak with very nice cushions, the pool is quite nice with some natural stones built into the side walls.

You want to get to this place before word gets out.

For a change there is a nice ocean front restaurant near by at the Villa Montania Hotel about a 10 minute drive.

This is the real deal and ranks up there with the best golf courses in the US. Take away the hype and tradition and this course surpasses pebble beach in every category. I'm a 2 handicap. Didn't play we'll, but not awful. Had little chance to break 80 on this day. We were playing from back though. Next time I go I'm staying at royal. If the wife plays you can't beat the deal.

Only negative is that it is on the other side of the island from San Juan. Haul to get there.

If you are an avid golfer and want to play a breathtaking but highly difficult course and you enjoy superb accommodations, food and service, this is just the place for you. Also has an absolutely beautiful, wild and desolate beach wonderful for walking and taking a quick dip, but beware of rough current. Designed as a private member club and boutique hotel, it really is a wonderful package of first rate amenities.

Room Tip: Every casita is the same and all views are gorgeous
