We just returned from a 3-night stay at this resort and we stayed at a Beach-front one bedroom Villa. Although we are local residents in Puerto Rico, we had never stayed here. We decided to book our stay at Villa Montaña because it is right next door to our favorite place to ride horses and we had seen the resort many times during the rides.
You have to see this place to believe it. It is absolutely beautiful! Imagine waking up every morning to take your breakfast on your back porch, with the greenest grass all around you, the brightest sun shining in the bluest sky above, and the ocean waves a mere 40 steps away ( I counted them!). And wait until you see the sunsets! It is truly breathtaking. The grounds are very well kept and it is a very relaxing, romantic, secluded, laid back and out of the way resort.
However, I must advise you to bring your own food and a car. The beach is secluded and there are no crowds, In fact, there is hardly anyone on it because the coast is rocky and the surf is sometimes too strong. If you want the beach only for sunbathing then you will be fine, but if you plan on entering the water you better be a good swimmer. For snorkeling it is okay although there is not much to see. If you want a better beach, you will have to drive somewhere else. Isabela to the east and Aguadilla to the west have excellent beaches. Or you could drive to Aguadilla and go to the water park there, which is excellent.
The food in the restaurant is excellent but pricey. It is very well prepared and presented, and the taste and quality were very good, but for the price, you would expect far better service. There was only one person in charge for seating us, taking our orders, bringing the food, and finally the check. For breakfast they have complimentary Continental breakfast of toast with a small cup of fruit, and a small cup of yogurt, with juice and coffee, or one pastry with fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. Good thing it was complimentary because it costs about 12 dollars each. Again, if the service were better you could understand the price. But we had to wait about 35 to 45 minutes for this breakfast. For dinner it was worse. We had to leave without ordering dessert because we had already been there for almost two hours, and there was only one other family in the restaurant that night.
The Villas have a kitchenette, so we prepared our own food and breakfasts the rest of our stay and we were fine. So, bring your own food. The small freezer in our small refrigerator had not been defrosted and we had to smash away the ice from it.
The pools were plain, and small. The rooms were clean, the AC were functioning, the TV was great for the kids, and the bathroom was clean and adequate.
All in all, we had a great time. And we got an upgrade from a garden view villa to an ocean view villa with a free night.
