We just returned from a 3-night stay at this resort and we stayed at a Beach-front one bedroom Villa. Although we are local residents in Puerto Rico, we had never stayed here. We decided to book our stay at Villa Montaña because it is right next door to our favorite place to ride horses and we had seen the resort many times during the rides.
You have to see this place to believe it. It is absolutely beautiful! Imagine waking up every morning to take your breakfast on your back porch, with the greenest grass all around you, the brightest sun shining in the bluest sky above, and the ocean waves a mere 40 steps away ( I counted them!). And wait until you see the sunsets! It is truly breathtaking. The grounds are very well kept and it is a very relaxing, romantic, secluded, laid back and out of the way resort.
However, I must advise you to bring your own food and a car. The beach is secluded and there are no crowds, In fact, there is hardly anyone on it because the coast is rocky and the surf is sometimes too strong. If you want the beach only for sunbathing then you will be fine, but if you plan on entering the water you better be a good swimmer. For snorkeling it is okay although there is not much to see. If you want a better beach, you will have to drive somewhere else. Isabela to the east and Aguadilla to the west have excellent beaches. Or you could drive to Aguadilla and go to the water park there, which is excellent.
The food in the restaurant is excellent but pricey. It is very well prepared and presented, and the taste and quality were very good, but for the price, you would expect far better service. There was only one person in charge for seating us, taking our orders, bringing the food, and finally the check. For breakfast they have complimentary Continental breakfast of toast with a small cup of fruit, and a small cup of yogurt, with juice and coffee, or one pastry with fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. Good thing it was complimentary because it costs about 12 dollars each. Again, if the service were better you could understand the price. But we had to wait about 35 to 45 minutes for this breakfast. For dinner it was worse. We had to leave without ordering dessert because we had already been there for almost two hours, and there was only one other family in the restaurant that night.
The Villas have a kitchenette, so we prepared our own food and breakfasts the rest of our stay and we were fine. So, bring your own food. The small freezer in our small refrigerator had not been defrosted and we had to smash away the ice from it.
The pools were plain, and small. The rooms were clean, the AC were functioning, the TV was great for the kids, and the bathroom was clean and adequate.
All in all, we had a great time. And we got an upgrade from a garden view villa to an ocean view villa with a free night.

Biggest Nightmare

We are extremely disappointed with the service and quality of this hotel. As we arrived the lights in the villa didn't work. Mosquitos as big as wasps, air conditionings not working or leaking water into the living room and the place was filthy. We rented two villas and both were in the same poor conditions. At seven in the morning tree trimmers start to make noise with their equipment, we had to get up and leave the location.Manager states that she was not aware of the tree trimming schedule. We start calling to correct the issues in the units and up to the day that we left they were not corrected. Manager was not helpfull, her only solution was to switch us to another unit, creating an inconvenience for us.We went there for a family vacation and became the biggest nightmare for all of us. I spend more time complaining and trying to get things fix than enjoying the beach and the area.On our last day we went to the pool and try to order thru the person at the bar a platter of appetizers from their menu and she said they do not have kind of service, we went out of the property to get something to eat and then they asked us to leave to pool area because the food wasn't from them.We asked for the bar manager and we still waiting for that person. Please do not thru away your money at this place. They do not represent the hospitality, service and kindnest of the people of Puerto Rico. You can compare this hotel and service with a $39.00 a night motel of any city in USA. At checkout the manager reduce the price from $495 to $350 per night, but still extremely expensive for what they have to offer. From the outside the place look breathtaking but inside it is awfful and frustrating. It was our first and last time at this hotel and I will not even refer my enemies to this place.

Were in love with Villa Montana

Never usually write reviews but had to take a moment for this one. Just got back from our second trip to Villa Montana in late may (boyfriend just graduated law school!) and once again fell absolutely in love. The place is breathtaking, the colors, the views, just beautiful. The staff is great, very friendly, you can tell theyve been working together for a while now and have a good rythim going on. Last time we visited we stayed in a regular hotel room (which was perfectly fine), but this time, due to the celebration, stayed at a beach-front villa and wow. Nothing could be better than waking up to the beautiful carribean sea every morning. All in all, the resort is great, not the best place to meet singles because its a very romantic, couples or families stay, very secluded very relaxing, you end up feeling like youre the only people there and its fantastic! i highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for a few days off the fast-paced city. Love it!!

San Juan

Villa Montana Beach Resort is located in Isabela, roughly 1 1/2 hours west of San Juan. My boyfriend and I booked two nights through Hotwire. We thought the price was a very good deal. We arrived at Villa Montana at around 3pm. We were quite tired from the long trip. We were told check-in was not until 4pm. So we waited, and waited. We got to our room at around 4:30pm.

The room was great, although a little bit small. I loved the decor. The A/C barely worked. The bathroom was average. There was a locked door at the end of the hallway. We would hear noise coming from the other side of the door at night. We weren't quite happy about that. There is no internet in the rooms, so if you want internet you have to go to the lobby. The flat screen tv was the best thing in the room, and I don't think that's a good thing.

I've got to admit that the resort is beautiful and well kept. The pools were small, and quite ordinary. The children's pool by the restaurant was always crowded. You'd think the pools would have a little waterfall, or a waterslide, but no. Next time, I'm staying at the Hyatt.

The resort boasts 3 miles of private beach, and sure enough, this is what you'll be getting. Problem is, the beach is not enjoyable. It is full of rocks, and the tide can be quite dangerous. If like you constantly stepping on mossy rocks, while being pushed back and forth by big waves, then this is the resort for you. Puerto Rico has beautiful beaches, and this is not one of them. We ended up driving to a different beach 30 minutes away.

The rock climbing wall was out of order. The restaurant was expensive, and not worth it. There was nothing to do but swim in the pool, and watch tv. I've got a tv, and pool at home. The resort was pretty much dead after 8pm, and it's an hour drive to Aguadilla, the nearest big city.

The front desk personel were not very friendly. We had to wait like 20 minutes to ask for towels. They were talking on the phone and wouldn't even look at us. At least check-out was fast. I couldn't wait to get out of that place. Bottomline, if you want to get away of it all, and if you enjoy seclusion, this is the resort for you.

Nice Location, But Not Worth the $$$

While Villa Montana is in a beautiful, somewhat isolated location, the service was underwhelming. A lot of smiles, but exceedingly slow responses to simple requests for extra pillows and beach towels. At check in, staff did very little to make us feel that we were welcome. We tried to check in early and were told the room would be ready in 30 minutes. That was fine, but the wait was over an hour an a half. We would have been OK if they just told us up front to come back in two hours. We called the front desk a few times but it took at least three calls to get someone to answer. We are frequent travelers and usually don't complain about service, but at $300 per night, I expected better.
