“Great overnighter with some friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

We went for a motorcycle weekend with some close friends. I picked the Port Albert Inn and all I can say is we are re-booking it for next year. Mark is a very nice man that cooked and looked after us. He was the only one there, so cooked the supper and breakfast in shifts. We didn't mind at all, and had a great time. The place was clean and very cozy. We came out of the cold into a room with a hot wood belly stove. There was 10 of us in total, and we all enjoyed.

Port Albert Inn has become our "home away from home" for vacationing. We stay there while we attend the Celtic Festival in Goderich.

Mark is a wonderful host with a diverse history of the area. We appreciated the knowledge he shared in helping us locate the homestead of ancestors. It's great listening to his stories of the area. This year we met Angus, another host, who made us feel at home. This place has a nostalgic feeling for us and especially for me whose ancestors were born in the area or settled there after leaving Ireland.

Our room was great. We had a four-poster bed and fireplace. The sleep was great - very comfortable and clean. Food is home-cooked, very ample and tasty.

We look forward to many more visits.

This small and old inn in Port Albert is somewhat of a hidden treasure. It's located just off the shores of Lake Huron. The town in very small and works perfectly as a get away from busy society, but is still close enough to larger towns for a quick bite at Tim Hortons. From booking to checking out, the entire stay was fantastic. The passerby's at the inn as well as the staff at the inn are all extremely welcoming and happy to start up a conversation. The rooms were nice and had a nostalgic feel to them. Our room had a fireplace and four-poster canopy bed (loved it). The inn has a hot tub and nice sun room off the back. Breakfast was complimentary and delicious. Beer on tap :).

We stayed for one night but would have liked to have stayed longer. The place is interesting, friendly staff (family run I believe), and very relaxed. It took us a little bit to unwind from the drive and settle into the laid back pace, but once we did it was fantastic. There's a cute convenience store across the street that makes an amazing pizza! Our room (#3) was a good size, the bed was very comfortable (the best sleep I've had in weeks) and very clean. I was concerned that we might hear all the guests staying (as you sometimes do at B&B's) but we heard nothing! We had a nice evening chatting with the owner/s then took a wonderful hottub under the stars before bed.

The staff are very accomodating and will do whatever they can to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Do not come expecting high end, This is not a spa or a 5-star resort with a culinary chef in the kitchen. This is a wonderful country inn and it's all about relaxing and just letting your city-life go.

There is a beach about a 5 minute walk down the road which was nice to just sit and watch the waves coming in (it was windy that day). We are planning on going back a few more times this summer, as it was such a nice get away for us and you cannot beat the price!

Thank you Port Albert Inn! We will be back soon!!

Port Albert, and the Inn at the Port itself , is like stepping into a very quiet, untravelled and uncomplicated part of the country. Just what was needed for a quick holiday away from our busy lives.
The Inn is wonderful. Exactly what a traditional type of Inn should be. Lots of lovely woodwork, old fashioned and REAL tin ceilings, fireplaces and our bed even had a canopy ! Along with the antique furnishings you also have all the modern conveniences that you need.
The food was great and the service friendly and professional. Mark was an excellent host as he is very well informed about the area and full of good suggestions as to how spend your time. In the true traditon of a country Inn host he always has time for his guests.
The beach there is fantastic and you can walk for miles. Great place to sit and watch the sun set and relax at the end of the day. Apparently there is excellent salmon fishing as well. I don't fish but enjoyed checking out the salmon ladder on the river beside the Inn.
Great place and will definately return there when I am back in the area.
