Zichron Ya’cov is a charming town and what better way to experience it than to stay in the heart of the old section of town in a small inn owned and operated by a 4th generation family.
Smadar Inn & Winery has a winning formula. They offer four large eclectically furnished distinctive rooms with modern large bathrooms, delectable breakfasts, free wifi, swimming pool, hot tub, and a quiet location within easy walking distance of the old town. It’s really very comfortable.
But what makes it extra special is the opportunity to sit and talk with Esther, Mote and their daughter – to hear their stories and listen to their perspectives. It’s this kind of opportunity for connection with Israelis that we seek when we travel. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss Mote, with a twinkle in his eye when he tells us his daughter has completed her military service and wants to learn the winery business. And we had the opportunity to personally thank Esther who tried to help us months in advance when we couldn’t purchase Caesarea concert tickets on-line with our U.S. credit card.
The breakfast table is set with a selection of foods, fresh bread and juice. Mote took to heart Harvey’s lactose intolerance and offered a number of firm goat cheeses that he can eat. There was also fresh cutup veggies in olive oil, hummus, babaganoush, yogurt, tuna fish, assorted smoked fish, olives and mozzarella cheese. And then Mote offered to make us eggs any way we like! What a feast. We had to watch ourselves so we didn’t over eat!
Smadar Inn is a great choice for touring the area. I had a list of possibilities that would have easily filled a week. After a day exploring, it was a comfortable inn to relax and refresh before taking the easy walk to numerous dinner options.
