“Wonderful Southern Hospitality and Charm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2010

The Fry family does a wonderful job of maintaining this fabulous home. We stayed in Aunt Clara's Cottage, and the home was so welcoming and relaxing. Breakfast was fantastic each morning and totally indicative of southern cuisine. I can't wait to stay here again next year when we have our conference again!

We were very impressed with the Devereaux Shields House & with Mr & Mrs Fry. They were wonderful people with a wonderful staff. They asked us what we were wanting to do while we were in town & gave us suggestions. They told us where to eat & we were very impressed with the restaurants. We had such a wonderful time while visiting Natchez & learning the history. We are certainly going back & staying in the Devereaux Shields House. What fantastic breakfasts they serve also. We were very pampered while staying in the Devereaux Shields Home. We certainly miss it & miss the company of Mr & Mrs Fry.

It is very difficult to write an original review for the Devereaux Shields House because so many of the other reviews echo our precise feelings & experiences. The main "House" and the associated Aunt Clara's Cottage where we stayed (Victoria Room) are lovely and beautifully furnished Victorian homes located in a quiet, lush old neighborhood of fine homes. Ron & Eleanor are gracious hosts happy to provide recommendations for dinner and activities. And although we were only able to take in one of their famous breakfasts, it was fabulous as all have agreed, and featured a somewhat rare appearance (according to Ron) of secret-recipe french toast which was to die for (Eleanor fortunately is happy to share the secret). We toured some of the historic Natchez homes before leaving to explore the Natchez Trace Parkway, but we could have easily spent most or all of our time on the porch of Aunt Clara's Cottage. Highly recommended.

Delightful turn-of-the-past-century cottage in a quiet neighborhood near the center of town. Gracious hosts and a scrumptious Southern breakfast. Furnished with period antiques--we had a four-poster rice bed, typical for the area. Our hosts made good dinner recommendations and offered to have a carriage pick us up at the doorstep for a tour of Natchez. (They even mailed to me the pillow I had forgotten!) Plan to tour some of the lovely 19th century homes open to the public!

We had such a wonderful time. We stayed in the Elmo room at Clara's Cottage which is right down the street from the main house. It has a great front porch, is very clean and roomy. We've stayed at two other B&B's in Natchez and this was by far our favorite so far.

We are usually not bed & breakfast people because we do not like staying in people's homes, so Aunt Clara's Cottage was perfect for us. They usually do not allow young children, but they were nice enough to make an exception for our 3 yr. old because it was the hot air balloon race weekend. Great price for 2 people, but can get a bit pricey at $30 per additional guest in same room (including children). Location is great and breakfast was excellent!
