Just returned home from "girl" trip to Natchez. Stayed at the Isle of Capri Hotel. They are renovating and our room was fine. The continental breakfast was good. At check-in the desk clerks were very friendly and helpful. The ubiquitos parrot was entertainng and had quite a vocabulary! Do not expect too much from the buffett at the casino. They advertised prime rib and seafood for the night we went and it just wasn't there. There was the usual buffett fare including fired chicken, ham and salisbury steak but no prime rib in sight! The desserts were fine but the choices were limited. The best thing about the buffett was the cappacino with the dessert. We lucked into a deal on the room-a double for 2 nights with 2 free buffett tickets, 1 house tour for 2 and a carriage ride for 2 for $99.95. At that price you can't complain too much - I have eaten from the buffett at other Isle of Capri Casinos and it was much, much better. The first night in Natchez we ate at the Pig Out Inn - it was wonderful!! We toured 4 historic homes while there; Longwood (wonderful, no pics on "living" level), Rosalie (beautiful but w/a $3 "camera permit"), Magnolia Hall (very impressive, all the pics you want inside and out, kudos for efforts of the Garden Club) and Stanton Hall (we were the last tour of the day and were able to ask lots of questions, no inside pics! period). All of the homes have a rich and interesting history w/knowledgable docents who obviously loved the homes as if they were their own. If we had had more time we would probably have done more homes but after 4 they were beginning to run together in my mind, not to mention being physically worn out!
We didn't do a LOT of shopping but the shopping we did have time for was spent at the Old South Trading Company on Canal St. VERY, very nice man there who goes the extra mile-don't miss it!
I could have spent all day in the city cemetery (I'm a funeral director). I found it to be one of the most historic cemeteries I have toured on my travels. Lots of good photo ops and the monuments in the older section of the cemetery are just gorgeous! Very well kept up and the lawn is manicured!
On the whole it was a great trip! If anyone wants info or has questions feel free to e-mail me but be sure to put NATCHEZ in the subject line or you are likely to get deleted.
