Owner description: Construction on this architectural gem, the largest octagonal house in the U.S., began in 1860, but was interrupted by the onset of war. A National Historic Landmark, the still-unfinished mansion is an enduring symbol of the impact of the Civil War.

We were in Natchez for the balloon race and decided to tour one of the homes. In my opinion, it was ok. The most impressive thing about it was its brick structure.

“You Must Visit Longwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2014

I know you have been to lots of historic home tours but I guarantee you have not been to one like this. We visited Longwood as part of the Natchez Fall Pilgrimage. What a wonderful historic site. This is a truly marvelous home that was never completed! Our guide had stories of the family living in the basement for generations while the house remained unfinished for generations. Very unique. This is a wonderful chance to see the architectural bones of a mansion from the 19th century. Well worth the visit.

“Great first stop on the Fall Pilgrimage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2014

We have seen many historic homes and mansions and we were excited to get started on the Fall Pilgrimage by visiting Longwood. As we found over the next two days, each property we would visit had a particular strength and point of interest. This property was one of the most unique I have ever visited, it was very enjoyable.
The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly, enhancing the experience. The story of this property is riveting and the preserved history brings the story to life. An excellent combination of a window into the period and awesome and unique architecture. A must see!
