Just a short drive outside of town is the beautiful Natchez City Cemetery. Although established in 1822, remains from an older burial ground were moved here. The Cemetery is laid out in sections, clearly marked and easy to navigate. Elaborate tombstones, markers and statuary make this more of a stroll through an art gallery - celebrating the beauty of life. The immaculate and exquisite grounds reinforce the experience - towering trees covered in Spanish Moss and flowering bushes -even in December. At the highest point is a bluff that overlooks the Mighty Mississippi. A short walk from your parked car, a couple of concrete chairs beckon you to settle in, stare out at the eternal river and reflect on the transient nature of life.
