A gorgeous, serene stop along The Natchez Trace. Nice peaceful setting for a walk or a picnic. Watch the sunset from atop one of the two mounds and enjoy the feeling of tranquility. Whether you spend five minutes or a whole day at Emerald Mound you will not be disappointed!

“Spend the day!”

I've been to Emerald Mound dozens of times, but I never grow tired of it. Impressive stop along the Natchez Trace to stretch your legs. It's quite a mound!

“An intriguing Mayan-like site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

The mound is what is left of a substantial village. there are two mounds connected by a pathway. I wish there were more history available at the site about the archaeology and cosmology of the place, but nevertheless, we went and enjoyed the climb up the stairs to sit upon the mound and conjecture what might have transpired there.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

Do NOT skip this should be traveling the Natchez Trace of anywhere close to Natchez. A fascinating relic from the Mississippians, you are sure to be amazed. It's just a short distance off the Natchez Trace and after climbing to the top of the mound, you can't help but marvel at the amount of work that went into the mound's creation (it was basically created by hand!) and imagine how the mound was central to the existence of those Native Americans of long ago.

“If you've never seen an Indian Mound...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

It's off the Natchez Trace just a little (for now) but well worth a visit. The story of how the mound was built and used by the Indians is very interesting and an important part of our heritage. As the "second largest" it is something everyone must experience.
