“Not so great for the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We stayed one night out of four in Natchez. Pool not open, disappointment for the family. It wasn't as clean as I felt it should be. The front area was not very appealing but we needed a place to stay and it did provide that until we could locate another place. There was a view to the river from the back, not the bridge.

Spacious clean and comfortable room with a view of the mighty Mississippi. We only planned on one night but after seeing the room we wanted to stay an extra night. We were initially told that it was booked out but the Manager and staff went out of their way to extend our booking. The complimentary breakfast was a bit ordinary. The hotel was quiet and the outside pool area great to sit down and enjoy view of Mississipi. Hotel close, walking distance to the fabulous Visitors Centre but a bit far out of town to walk to restaurants etc. very comfortable bed. The only real drawback was the in reliability of the Wi-Fi connection.

We've just returned from a trip to Natchez and a short stay at the Vue Hotel. The hotel is a remarkable study in contrasts. First and foremost the name of the hotel has been recently changed from the Grand Soleil Casino Resort to The Vue Hotel and Restaurant. No casino here, not sure what Grand Soleil means, and in no way is it a resort. Worst of all no major signage along the highway or on the building to identify it as the Vue. Their webside doesn't even process reservations. There's only a small temporary looking sign on the long driveway leading up to the top of the hill where there's a cluster of three buildings. The big one is The Vue..but nothing on the building to identify it. And the sad part is that this location offers the absolutely best view of the riverside anywhere in Natchez and it's location is close to everything. It's number one from a location standpoint. It's as though the owners are trying to keep the place a secret. It makes no sense for such a great property to appear so poorly visited by travelers.

Inside, the hotel offers great space in the lobby, and the rooms are large, spotless and many offer fabulouis views. It appears that the building is just a few years old, and is well maintained. But there's some unfinished issues especially in the bathrooms. Most mid-scale hotels provide some traction material in the tub and shower. Not in the bath we had. There was no towel rack or anything to hold onto getting in or out of the tub to take a shower. There's a major accident waiting to happen in those bathrooms in my opinion and it's nearly impossible to imagine a professional hospitality organization that wouldn't recognized the risk. But again, it looks like someone quit before the work was fully complete.

As there are rooms on the second and third floor an elevator is provided off of the lobby. While we were there this elevator was partially broke. One could ride up..but had to use the stairs to come down from the second floor. When we complained the desk person inferred that there had been a problem but it was fixed. Wrong! But surprise-surprise, there was a second elevator in the back of the building used by cleaning staff. A cleaning lady told us about it and we used it for the remainder of the stay. With only one elevator out in front it would be helpful to have signage to notify guests of a second option. And that second elevator was clearly well suited for guest-use.

Finally, the restaurant is a sad reminder of what could be..but isn't. For more than three decades people came to this location to dine at this restaurant. We were there on a Saturday night and the dining room was all but empty. They do serve a free breakfast for the hotel patrons, but it involved a "plated" selection of items not worth mentioning and with no alternatve choices. The reputation for quality dining in the past seems to have been lost with the one exception of a highly motivated server named Henry who served everyone their breakfast. Henry is a gem.

There are plenty of reasons to love this place. The price is a real value. The location can't be beat. The entire operation has fantastic potential. But right now it seems to be seriously understaffed, poorly marketed, and far below its potential. On our next visit to Natchez we'll certainly make The Vue our number one choice.

We visited the area to play in a youth baseball tournament. The hotel has been redone recently. Everything was new and clean and the staff was very nice. Breakfast was quick and easy - they just bring you out a plate of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and biscuits. I guess you can order something else if you want, but the standard breakfast was good. The only thing I would recommend is an upgrade to HDTV as they still have the old CRT TVs.

Room Tip: The view over the Mississippi River is very nice if you want to pay for an upgrade.

A very nice hotel, with a very friendly staff. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a good view of the Mississippi River. Close to the downtown. Only problem after settling in we tried to connect to the Internet and nothing seemed to work, so my husband made a call to the front desk, and she was less than helpful. Her comment, yes we have been having some issues..period. Not the response I was hoping for, a little more information or "let me see if there is anything we can do". I must say it was working in the morning. All in all a very pleasant stay and we would come back again.

Great hotel, friendly staff, clean and comfortable and what a view! Our room overlooked the Mississippi river and the bridge crossing it from Louisiana. Lovely looking pool and bar though we didn't have time to use them. Breakfast was a ready plated meal of grits, sausage, scrambled egg and toast with coffee and orange juice, fine if you like that sort of food. Please be warned if you are arriving on a sunday afternoon/evening the bar and restaurant are closed as is just about anywhere else to eat in Natchez! However there is a place just a few hundred yards up on the other side of the road that served the best catfish of our entire holiday.

I turned up without a reservation on a very busy weekend when the first two hotels I tried were full. The front desk found me a room facing the river but, unfortunately, on the ground floor. Because the pool (and small bar) and terrace were just outside the window I was afraid it might be noisy. But no, even though there were always people out there sharing a drink and taking in the view. It's a lovely spot for a little down time when you've been walking the town all day. And although the hotel is at the top of a hill it's a fairly easy walk into the center of Natchez and back.
My room was clean, well appointed and quite cheerful. Breakfast was only okay, but then I'm not a big fan of grits, although it's wonderful to eat in a real restaurant with table linens instead of the usual little room with the TV looming over your shoulder. I think for the price it's a fine hotel and I would come back.
