“A GREAT place to stay and a history lesson all in one!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2015

We had a very enjoyable stay at Glenfield Plantation! I love it when I get to hear the history of a house, town and region. Our hosts Marjorie and Valerie recounted the history of the house, the only civil war skirmish in Natchez (which happened on the property) and of other homes in and around Natchez. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. You will feel right at home, don't hesitate to book here.

I just returned after spending four nights here with my little dog... I had the lovely front queen room with own bath in the most historic portion of this home. As a woman traveling alone I felt safe and enjoyed having company to visit with after returning from a long day photographing within the area. Privacy is respected by the hosts should that be your wish as well. The grounds are lovely and private and a very short drive 5 minutes to historic downtown. The furnishings in this home are authentically passed down within the family not staged like some homes in the area which as a historical researcher I valued very much. Is this a sleek, staged place. No! Instead it is an authentic plantation family home with the nicest hosts that know the history and places to visit in the area. This is the place to stay in Natchez and I have visited here before..., I will be back!

Room Tip: I will book the room in the front again with Queen bed in the oldest part of the home.

Do not expect five star luxury but do expect 7 star hospitality from the most welcoming, gracious and amusing owner and her delightful English Labrador - Jake. This is an old, c.1840s, plantation house which has been in the family since the 1870s. Marjorie and her daughter Valerie welcome you as if you were a member of their family and do everything to make you feel at home. They are immensely proud of their historic home and have kept it as far as possible as a family home rather than as a B&B. Our double room with en suite had two large four poster beds, both very comfortable, and a large single bed. It was a room of character not your standard plastic hotel and in our opinion much the better for that. Marjorie served us a wholesome cooked breakfast in the morning and then gave us a fascinating tour of the house with lots of interesting historical titbits including showing us the hole where a stray bullet passed through the front door during the civil war. She has a wealth of knowledge about the local area and its history which she really enjoys sharing with you. Having driven from Washington DC and stayed in numerous run of the mill hotels our two nights at Glenfield were by far the most enjoyable and will remain in our memories for a long time. If you want a genuine taste of southern hospitality mixed with history this is the place to stay. Highly recommended.

This is not a hotel. This is someone's home and its a home that has been well lived in. The furniture and contents have been in the family for many years. Mrs Meng was an excellent hostess and went out of her way to make us feel at home. We only stayed one night but if we had stayed longer then we would have learned even more local history and information from Mrs Meng. We certainly experienced the renowned southern hospitality and our hostess wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
If you are the type of person that likes everything to be brand new, spick and span then this property may not be enjoyable for you(for example the bathrooms could be upgraded).
We certainly enjoyed our stay.

This is not a 5 star hotel this is someone's home and you get that feeling when you walk through the door. The hospitality on offer is second to none and if you ask for something it appeared swiftly. The house is full of character and loads of interesting things to see inside.

The breakfast was really nice and the setting is beautiful. Really enjoyed the tour of the house as it brings the place alive.

When booking you should be aware that the en suite arrangements for the bedroom at the front of the house are a little unconventional but the detail was buried by Booking.com not the owners! Basically a jack & jill arrangement but you have to walk down the main hallway to get to the bathroom which was OK but not my first choice in the middle of the night!

Really glad we chose to visit Natchez and enjoyed our night at Glenfield.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back with conventional bathroom access. There are only 4 rooms two share a bathroo...

Thank you for expressing such a kind review of my bed & breakfast. It's guest as yourself that truly appreciate a family owned historic home and yes, we love your children! Your grandchildren were delightful to have with us, and I do hope you will visit us again.

I had always wanted to visit Natchez and our 25th wedding anniversary seemed the time. We did a "gulf coast" tour and ended up here with friends who had never been south of Arkansas. The setting is beautiful, the history is alive and well especially when host Marjorie puts it the framework of her family. I would recommend Glenfield Plantation in particular and Natchez in general to anyone heading to this part of the world

Room Tip: There are only 4 - its like visiting family...
