“Carriage house dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

9 of us had lunch at the Carriage House restaurant next to the Stanton Mansion. The visitor staff at the Natchez Visitor Center made the reservation for us, very nice of them, and we were dressed very casual, which were we told was acceptable for lunch. When we got there, they had a table ready for us. The staff was pleasant and everyone was very respectful. All of us were satisfied with the quality of the food, but were not overly impressed. It was in late September, and it was the first day of the fall "Pilgrimage" and the restaurant was crowded. Atmosphere and service were excellent.

“Old South Fine Dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We were referred to the Carriage House for lunch by one of the locals. What a treat. The place was not crowded so we got the royal treatment. The menu is somewhat limited, but offered familiar dishes served in creative new ways. For instance, we ordered the oyster salad expecting a pile of fried oysters on a pile of lettuce. Nope. Oysters were arranged in a circle around the plate sitting in a cucumber dressing with the Romain lettuce sitting in the middle of the plate on top of a tomato aspic stuffed with cream cheese. Nice presentation and tasted great. We also ordered the grilled pork chop and smothered greens. The chop was juicy and the greens were superb. When my wife asked about the "crisp grits" on the menu, the waiter, instead of explaining what it was, brought her out a sample. She asked about the fried chicken and he brought her a sample of that, too! Others have indicated that the level of service wasn't up to par, but we had exceptional service the day we visited.

“Wonderful combo Southern history and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

What a way to spend 2-3 hours. First work up your appetite visiting the magnificent Stanton Hall mansion and then walk a few steps on the same grounds to The Carriage House Restaurant to enjoy a 10 star fried chicken dinner accompanied by lima beans flavored with ham or maybe cheese filled grits and shrimp. Wow , what a meal, started by munching on tiny buttered biscuits washed down with a perfect mint julep . Service very knowledgeable and caring. Finally top the lunch off with homemade pecan cobbler and ice cream. Then , time to go visit another multilevel mansion to walk off this wonderful Southern feast.
