“Impeccable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

We didn't stay here at the inn but we ate in the restaurant. It is fine, elegant dining to the max. The dining room we were in was dripping with opulence. The meal is served in 5 courses: an appetizer, soup, salad, entrée, and dessert. Every course is meticulously portioned out. Not too big and not too small so by the time your dessert comes out you are ready to dig into it. The portions are not nearly as huge as some reviewers on here have mentioned. It is extremely quiet so it does make it kind of hard to relax and chat with others at your table knowing that right next to you is a table of strangers. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked and seasoned perfectly. Restaurant 1818 isn't the type of place I would want to go to too often but for a special occasion it is perfect.

“Eating Too Many Courses”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Included in the package we purchased when we stayed at the Monmouth, we received a five or six course dinner for two. You tell yourself, "Önly this time!" And you do eat all the courses they put before you because they are all good. I asked one of our servers why servings were so extremely large. Her answer was that the food was so good, they just wanted to keep eating and that was why they were all so fat! Quite a surprising answer. The food really was good, but, be warned - servings were very large - each and every one of them.

“Nice Dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I was planning to order a small plate and my husband was getting the 5 course "Taste of the South" dinner but, our waitress said the small plates are very small so I got a regular dinner. I don't know how they feel about it but we usually share what we order anyway so the small plate would have been fine. We even had enough to carry out for lunch the next day. (We may have eaten too much yummy bread.)

“Uninspired Meals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We had dinner here on the evening of our stay, and breakfast the next morning. For such a beautiful setting, the food preparation needs more attention. It could have been great and enjoyable because of the location, but it was just okay.
