“A True Picture of a Southern Plantation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Melrose is a National Historic Park. The home itself has been kept in as much of the original condition as possible. It really gives a feel of what a southern plantation was like. I enjoyed it very much and would like to return when I have more time to explore the outer grounds. I was a bit rushed for time on this visit!

“Interesting tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

The house is beautiful. Most of the furnishings are from the original owner. Our guide, Barney, provided us with a fun and sometimes funny tour. There came a huge downpour of rain during our house tour, so we were unable to see the grounds afterwards. Hope to return!

“Wonderful tour and beautiful home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

We only had time for one home tour on our trip and chose Melrose based on some reviews I had read. I am glad we did. Barney was a wonderful tour guide, and I learned a few things from him. I suggest Melrose because of the high percentage of original furniture, etc. It has only been owned by 3 families, and they have kept it all intact over the years. If you want to see an old estate home like it really was, go see Melrose. It's like walking into the past.

“National Park house with excellent tour guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

Our tour was a busy one but the tour guide managed to make it an wonderful experience. He made sure everyone could hear him well and see all they wanted to see. A lot of information about the materials but also about the people who have lived here. The outside is currently being restored but the inside is all without working people. This is a house where you may take pictures inside the house where ever you want. One of the better tours in Natchez plantation owner houses

“Melrose a must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Melrose and the grounds are maintained by the National Park Service and have tours on the hour of the house. Barney our guide was absolutely fascinating and so knowlegable on the house and the families that lived there. Barney made the entire experience so interesting that you could almost feel you were actually living there through his story telling. This was the most professional tour guide of the houses we saw while we were touring the south. I was even sorry when the tour came to an end.The antiques and household goods are all original to the house. The grounds are interesting and well maintained. There are several original out buildings that are interesting to look at as well.( The Slave quarters have an interesting story in pictures). Pictures inside are possible but no flash. Well done National Park Service and Well done Barney for making Melrose a great stop on our tour of the south. The outside of the house is being restored but does not take away from the actual tour.
